When you get it all together, make sure you rsvp to ole shady to make sure he's got a spot for you!

At one point you mentioned you had an extra plastic slam latch striker plate. If it's not a problem, could you bring that?

The more I look at my punch list, the more scared I get. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can....

Thanks! I've got a long way to go still, but it should be 'camp-able' by Saturday at 6:30am when Dano and I head to San Francisco. Hopefully Steve and I can get the two original benroy's side by side. I think it'd be a neat opportunity.

I'm-a-tryin Ted. Friggin last minute stuff is killing me. It's 9:49 Thursday nite, the Giants won game two, and it's still doable. The only wild hair right now is my wheel guy. Otherwise its down to a couple bolt-on and wire-up issues and we'll be on the road. Hopefully we'll see you all Saturday.

Keep at it! I'm in the same spot.

I need to bolt on my fenders, wire up the tail lights (tow vehicle and trailer) and bolt on the latch for one door. I won't have the galley latch done because I can't find a slam latch striker plate ANYPLACE. I've checked ACE, OSH, Home Creepo, etc. -- Grant said they don't supply them with the galley latch kits because there are so many different varieties and they are all readily available. Which planet are these striker plates readily available?! ;)

Keep at it! A photo of our two trailers out in the wild will be a nice addition to this thread.

Re: 1955 Benroy - Rebuild (Made Treasure Island!)

Postby TRP » Wed Oct 31, 2012 12:46 pm

Just a quick up date:
As some of you know, I made the Treasure Island Meet and Greet. I had to burn the midnight oil, but I made it. It wasn't for lack of 'custom events'. I had a dead battery in my car (left the hatch open and the lights going while wiring up the hitch lights). Then the trailer lights wouldn't work. At this point, I almost backed out. Dano and Mindy were gracious to put up with my lack of preparedness and helped me get on the road. I borrowed some lights from Dano and we stuck 'em on the fenders and hit the road.

1.5 or so hours later, we were on the island with the rest of the gang, ready for a weekend of fun.

Check out the Treasure Island Meet and Greet thread for more photos.

I'm going to take some time off of building the trailer to regroup and get my motivation back. Updates will slow down for a bit. I'll get back at it.

Oh! And thank you to Steve for the slam latch striker plate and the red Naugahyde.

Truly a very giving and generous bunch!

Re: 1955 Benroy - Rebuild (Recharging my builder battery)

Postby Lonnie Mac » Wed Nov 07, 2012 5:59 pm

T! I have been very excited following this build. I have just about hands down decided to duplicate this original Benroy for my build. I was wondering, where might one get the profile you have hanging on your wall in this pic below? Or did you work it up yourself? I do cad, but with this dang dang iMac, cad programs are hard to come by I believe.

Hey Lonnie Mac,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm pretty happy with the way the Benroy came out. I could never have imagined that I could actually get it back together, let alone back on the road in under 4 months.

Regarding the profile - That profile came with the trailer parts when I picked it up. I'm pretty sure it came from Grant. (http://www.teardrops.net/plans01.html) 35.00 bucks and Grant will send you one just like it.

If you have any questions at all, Please let me know.

Did you build a brutus or are you *the* creator of the Brutus? Regardless - those are awesome systems. A buddy of mine wants me to build one of those bad boys for my brewing. Coincidentally, it's the same person who convinced me to build a teardrop. Ha!

Maybe some day,

Funny world my friend! Yes, I am the creator of the original Brutus Ten and President of the Brutus Cult. I have literally given away thousands of plans to my brew system. I would be very happy to give them to you! Now I just want to camp and drink a great homebrew by a fire! I have ordered my Benroy tracing from Grant. Money's in the mail!
