Sharon I have come across another design in a magazine for a temp bar sink. saw it in the doctors office it is a sink like I was thinking about but it had an detachable drain so to speak. I was thinking I could use a flex hose for the drain and put it in a side table and still have the water drain to the tank. My whole thing is a way to keep from lifting so much. and water clean or graw is heavy and I want to comply with the park rules regarding the bear problem. I think I have decided that I have to put every main thing in because of the help I will have, so design is important. I may devise a way to have a bowl of water that I can let out into the grey tank. I have camped and I too usually spoon clean the biggest pot then fill with water put it on the Coleman and when hot I wash the dishes and other pots then I clean the pot I am washing in the water I usually throw in the fire or on the ground away from the camp I probably will do the same thing so all I really need is a way to drain into the grey holding tank instead. I guess my Idea wasn't so great but it is a way to kinda use the bowl as a sink but also a big funnel so to speak. :)

Mary,

If I owe you an apology please concider it given. My post was simply a tongue in cheek chuckle and not ment as a measure of your planning ability. I wish you the best of luck with the build. I am far less organized than you and tend to "wing it" when it comes to design. I have 4 builds in my back yard and none are "finished". Campable yes ,servicable yes, but finished probably never. I tinker and play with them like toys so please accept my most heartfelt apology as no offence was intended.

bobhenry, thanks, I was not offended I am just new and have been thinking for so long. and it is frustrating to have to wait sometimes. You say you have three builds and none finished when I get mine finished and for my great northern trek-meet and greet perhaps I will get to meet you in person and you will have the three finished!! mmmmmmmmm Did I give you a Goal??? I seem to really work better if I do a lot of planning and have a goal! Now I didnt give your post a second thought I sometimes(all the time) don't explain exactly what is going on and find I am reactionary.nuff said. so I went by the parts store looking for one thing and thinking about what someone said, saw a Funnel with a mesh screen. I am thinking about that too. and seeing a comment here somewhere about the grey water tank can get really nasty smelling I am also working to solve both issues. I also saw someone's trailer made of wood using Oak for the toung, now I can't find it Did it work , have there been any problems? I cant afford a trailer with brakes , just too expensive so I still plan to use a boat trailer but I found a place that if it is a 5 lug with springs can, in the future put brakes on.That is a $300. put off so I am very relieved. :D

Many teardrop campers think a sink is over-rated and either don't have one or wish they hadn't added it.

Yup, who needs a built in sink.

What I usually do is warm water in a pot on the stove to the desired temperature, add soap to it, and wash my dishes, etc. right in that.

I have a large deep SS bowl to do dishes in. I put it on a burner and heat the water right in it. If the water gets a bit cool, I just put it back on the burner and get it hot again. I hate doing dishes in cold water.

Cheers,

Gus

The 2013 "Crossroads of america" gathering is planned for this summer and it is a whopper of a gathering. Perhaps you can make it ? The 2011 gathering we had 38 states represented and 143 (I think) tiny trailers it was a hoot. A garage sale of camping and trailer building goodies, a dutch oven seminar, and several other training seminars and all who was there had a great time.

Check the gathering thread on this site for info updated often.

I have just had another IDEA while sleeping. I haven't seen anything like it, now lets see if I can explain it I like my coffee in the AM now, how about a door that opens from the cabin to the Kitchen with the coffee pot and the cups, cream and sugar? like a cabinet that opens from both sides. :NC I can put it on a timer and have it ready when i get awake. See I am having all these Ideas  and being I am not married (widow) and the kids live elsewhere, I am asking the forum for feedback. The Kids could care less. actually they think I am out of control and wasting my time and money to build such a -thing. They think that I am crazy and have some demented and obsessed thing about TDs. My neighbor thinks I have sprouted something from my head the way she looked at me when I told her about it. I now understand how a few of the people felt when they couldn't wait. but patience is a virtue and I am working on it. Now coffee in the morning. it would also be ok to slip something through if needed.

Mary, if you go into the Build Journals section and type Galley Pass Through, in the google custom search area at the top of the screen, you'll come up with 10 screen pages of them. Also, here is one you might like: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=22856&start=45 Please recognize that, the more complex your build, the longer it will take, especially if you're (?) someone who has never done something like this before. It'll be worth it, though.

Mary, the neighbors chuckled and shook their heads and said the same sorts of things about me when I started building. I built by myself, with no help to speak of except when I needed an extra set of hands to turn the chassis, or when I needed advice or a second opinion, etc. I even thought I might be a bit crazy and jokingly said so in my build thread. But, I did it and nobody is laughing anymore. You can do this. When you have a strong dream, it's important to see it through.

Mary, don't worry about what the neighbors think  After living here for 21 years, my neighbors know I'm nuts and they laugh with me as I laugh at myself. They've see some of my woodworking tools, some have seen my well-stocked woodworking shop, and some have even received presents from my woodworking shop. Who says women have to stay in the kitchen???

I didn't build my tear drop from scratch, but I have modified my Little Guy 4-wide, and I continue that modification. It's a comfy place to sleep, a good place to be.

And, by the way, it has a cabinet that is shared with the cabin and the galley in it. It would be simple to put doors on both sides all of it could be accessed from each side. It's on my Verna-do list....other things have a higher priority.

Have fun :applause:

I have a young friend (mechanic) who has volunteered to Pack the wheel hubs and help me get the "boat trailer" ready for new tires and wheels for my trip to Texas. He too thinks I am crazy but is going to help and" keep me safe" as he says. I am excited and think about it all the time. A few of my friends are skeptical and have told me so but I love to travel and it is a matter of money I just cant afford to stay in high priced hotels and motels. I figure I will try to make it to IL for the camp out but will have to tent it and be very jealous the whole time but I know there will be lots to learn and it will help me with my build in September. Thanks for the encouraging words and making me feel at home here. I will check out the info Sharon and Verna are you going to that camp out? :)

Mary, most of us started in tents. I gave up my tent just last year. My nephew, his wife and his two sons are still using it.

And, yes, I'm going to the Crossroads of America in 2013 at McCormick's Creek State Park in Indiana. It's gonna be great!!!!

Verna I am going to try to make it the CrossRoads, I am spending all the money I have right now on my car. trying to get it running I think I need a job for extra money. I will have to see if I can make it If I do I probably will have to put back the build again but that won't be the worst thing in the world. I think seeing the different things about the different TD's will help me so much. I am still confused about two or three references to them on here. I guess being a newbie, I have a lot to learn. I am planning two trips one out west and one up north I have decided to take my dogs I just cant see me boarding them for a month I guess the thing to do is plan on air conditioning too. When it is Hot I can't leave them in the car when I shop or when I go to lunch or when I see some sights and dogs aren't allowed. I am really planning right now and things get really confusing with all the choices. I am thankful for any and all suggestions. And does this TD disease get any better? :) At times I feel like I am consumed with TD thoughts all the time. getting things done around the house is getting harder.

The TD disease only gets worse. Just when you think you have all of the modifications done that you can do, you think of more. And, if you do go to a gathering, the disease gets worse because you see so many more examples of what can be done. It's a terrible disease  But, I can think of many different and worse things that could happen to a person.

Sunny Day always goes with me, and she loves it. Everyone loves her....except Bob Henry's Sadie, but that's OK. Air conditioning--yes, it can be very helpful in July in Indiana. A large fan would help, too. You could put a 5,000 BTU window air conditioner on a chair for your tent, and I know the dogs would rather stay in there than go outside in the heat of the day. But, on the other hand, McCormick's Creek SP has lots of trees and has quite a lot of shade, making it cooler.

Sorry Verna, once again I was not clear I was talking about my two Big trips in my TD, taking the boys (dogs) and having air Conditioner in the TD. I wouldn't worry about the tent, If I can suffer at the camp ground heat so can they. I don't use the air at home much I am too old and Not spoiled to AC I remember when cars didn't have any and remember when my aunt got her first air conditioner because she slept during the day and it was too hot to sleep. There were open windows, the smells of the farm and maybe a fan. evenings were spent on the front porch in the swing and rocking chairs. If it weren't for noisy people seeing the boys (with open windows) and calling the police (they do in GA) I would take them more often. With some type ac unit I could leave them in the TD in walmarts parking lot and then I could shop and not worry and leave stickers on the TD saying the dogs are safe with air conditioning on. :)
