Laast year I drove a 6,600 mile loop from home to Colorado, down to New Mexico and Arizona, up the Pacific Coast to Seatlle, across the Northern Plain States and back home and never saw one single Teardrop. I had no idea they were so popular until I found this site. Amazing!!! I still think they prefer to be in groups, 'cause I sure see a lot of them at the Tearjerker Gatherings

And, it's amazing the friends you aquire with these Teardrops. I just saw Prohandyman (Dan) and his wife at the grocery store this morning, and I regularly see John and Rose at the YMCA near my house. Yes, I like the quality of friends I've met in these secretive Teardrops!!!!

Sounds like a wonderful trip!
That was supposed to be the second half of our summmer trip this year.
But, because our teardrop was not finished we only got as far south as Aubur Indiana & as far east as Detroit.
There is next year though and we hope to head down thru Colorado to New Mexico and west to LA then up the coast home to B.C.
Love to hear more about where you went and what you saw???

Brian, it was supposed to be a tent camping trip, but I didn't realize that spring started later in the West than it does here. So, only 5 nights of tent camping, 4 nights in KOA Kabins, 5 nights with friends, and the rest in motels.

Of course last year was just plain weird, weather-wise. I hit rain, snow and sleet in Colorado, so I didn't stick around and play in Colorado as I had planned. I headed south for NM and AZ for warmth. Since there was still quite a bit of snow in Yosemite in May, I decided to go up the Coast, which was a wonderful change. Absolutely gorgeous!!! I did get to see lots of Redwood trees north of San Francisco, but I wasn't prepared for boondocking in the cold temps. So, I learned a lot about motels. There was a really neat country inn on the coast, an unusual motel in the trees in Oregon.

After camping 4 nights in Seattle (I finally got to go to the top of the Space Needle after a 33 year wait!!), I decided to try KOA Kabins across the upper Plains. One of my two favorites was the "tree house" in Deadwood, SD. It was perched on the side of a very steep hill, nestled in some pine trees and gave the impression of staying in a tree house. Then the KOA at the foot of Devil's Tower was one of the most peaceful. All kinds of birds that I never see here in the 'burbs, deer in the meadow all night and early in the morning, and a great view of the Devil's Tower.

I'm sitting here smiling because of all of the sights I got to see, even if I wasn't camping. The next time I will have my teardrop with me and I'll be able to take more time.

Next year, I'm going to AZ for a couple of weeks, OH for a week, three Hoosier Tearjerker gatherings, and whatever State Parks I can get to. I'm ready for spring already

Hi Verna
So are we. We stayed in a motel in Deadwood in Mid August as we hit a hale storm as we came up from Rapid City that was so bad that all of the traffic was pulled over to the side of the road waiting it out. A couple of inches fell in about 10 minutes.
And yes there are some beautiful sites to see in the Northwest!
Late August and all of September is especially nice.
Hope you can make it back this way with your teardrop, as we would love to run into you somewhere down the roads in 2013.

August in South Dakota can fool ya. In 1994 I left Sturgis in 80 degree weather headed for Custer and had to stop at a roadside souvineer shop to buy an ugly sweatshirt just to keep from freezing to death. Beautiful country,,,,but be prepared....
If you see my harley on a trailer,,,,call the police cause it's being stolen...

I kinda think to some degree they are a novelty. The street above me has 3 manufactured ones all new only one takes her's out more often then I do. the others just sit. one is real pretty yellow top and chrome sides, looks more like a bread loaf.

I also live in an area where people pull trailers a lot. Mantana De Oro, and Morro Bay State park both with in walking distance to the ocean and it is rear when I see one. but I try and strike up a conversation. I saw one in San Luis Obispo it was pulled by a scion pulling a good guy with a air conditioner sticking out the side with a young family inside the van. It was so nice to see.

So it is amazing when you go to the IRG or any other gathering and see all those little trailers. It is rear that anyone ever wants to see mine which we kinda like, the people that approch us are ones that have seen them on TV or are thinking about them and they find any little trailer worth a look. We were parked at the IRG next to a classic teardrop including wire wheels and people would walk around ours to see it, not that I care but it is an interesting study in human behavior.

in 2007 when we were in NM we saw several small trailers non teardrops but very very homemade. One carried a full boat on top the other was very square with very little doors. We saw non in AZ nor CA just the road near Socorro, NM. When we got back there was a gathering at Lopez Lake with about 10 TDs. :snappy: I just keep my camera ready :vroom: for that rear site.

Where I live there is at least a VW camper on every street and lots of RV's and RV trailers most seem to sit only to be taken out once a year. And I think that the owners of the MFG'ed TD's are doing the same.

 Had to make a quick turnaround trip to Yankee Hill Calif. Left Friday the 2nd, mid day from Whittier. Saw a teardrop with Texas plates at a truck stop somewhere off Hwy. 99. Did not have time to stop to visit.

I also found two teardrops within two miles of my house.

I agree with Grant, maybe it's a West Coast thing, and a few years ago the answer would have been no, but now it's pretty rare not to see a few out on the highways of Oregon and Cali. On our trip a couple weeks ago, saw 3 or 4 going down the road and pulled in next to one at a rest stop in NorCal. The two guys were taking a cross country trip in theirs. Chatted for a few minutes and went on our separate ways. Seemed like nice kids (from my perspective anything under 25 is a kid   )
