Dale,

Memory cards have dropped in price so much, it's not worth sending it in... run to you local Walmart, Kmart, Meijer or whatever you call it in your area...

256 megs is $25

512 megs is $49

1 gig is $75

That's what I would do!

The cards are not the problem...I think. I don't believe both cards would go bad at the same time. I think it's the camera that's at fault. Either both cards get the card error, or neither one does. The card error comes and goes and is the same...error or no error... with both cards.

What happens when you format the cards on your computer... (formatted for fat32 of course!)

Can you see them on the computer and not on the camera?

Cards DO go bad. I almost threw away my old camera because of it. The camera would take a minute to write each picture. I would have one chance at a shot because it would take so long to be ready again. I had a 128meg card that was giving me fits, I slipped in the 8meg card that came with the camera....Problem solved. I should buy another card as a backup, Smart Media cards are so cheap now.

Good choice Krob... I use it a lot, especially when I don't have to crop...

Mike, I don't have a card reader on my computer, so I can't format them except with the camera, and with the problem, it won't format them...at least I don't think it will. But, then, I didn't try that. I'll check to see if I can.

I just tried it and with the card error, I couldn't bring up the menu to format. I removed the card and put it back, and this time I got the card to display the pics on it. But, the next time I try to shoot some pics it may just give the card error again. Like I said earlier, the error comes and goes.

Dale,

Card readers are as cheap as $10 now in some computer stores...

You really need to determine if the problem is your camera or the card...

Do you have a friend with a card reader?

If you can't find anyone to help you diag your problem, let me know... you can mail the card to me, I'll format it, check it, and mail it back to you... no charge...

Glad to help a forum buddy...

Thanks for the offer Mike. I did get the cam to format one of the cards when the error didn't appear. The other one just said "no images present" when I tried to format it (I had deleted all of the pics while I didn't have the error). I'm pretty sure the problem is with the camera, not the cards. It could be that the card slot contacts need cleaning, but the slot is so narrow I don't know if they can be cleaned.
