the governor here in Ohio killed the high speed rail along with the jobs it would create.
having lived in Philidelpha for a spell I enjoyed riding the subways and busses
I remember my dad talking about how hard it was trying to get gas during the second world war at least we can get gas.

It was 4.22/gallon here in the hinterland. I made a shopping trip today--that's about 60 miles one way, and gas had dropped in price there and was 3.79. Don't know what it would be at Costco. That would require about 20 more miles to get!

I drove my gas guzzler because I can fit lots of groceries inside it. We are in monsoon season. We'll be out of the monsoon maybe next July.

I cut down my driving drastically. I should slap on the smelly rain gear and pedal my bike. :frightened:

Lower octane means it explodes at a lower cylinder pressure than before
That's why you need to use a higher octane rating in a big displayment engine so
That it won't ping.
Oh by the way gas was $3.14 here in Ohio today
And I'm still not staying home.
Pete

ps Slow You did the right thing gas in a can or on the floor is never a good thing around flames or sparks.

okay. Interseting side of the gas subject. this stuff is no longer exploudable or flambale as it used to be!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have found out lately that the gas we are buying is so low in octone it will hardly exploude.

the crap is so watered down and pour quailty that i walked into the shop this afternoon to get a 2 gallon gas can.

it was sitting on the flour pretty close to the welding bench and was note this one.

FULL OF GAS ALL 2 GALLONS!!!!!!!!!!!

in the can

why would gas exploude in a gas can ? sparks flying isnt going to catch the gas on fire if its in the..........gas can. back in the 80s i welded on my trans am. before i did the repair i filled my gas tank up, so it wouldnt exploude. i understand you are venting but i not sure izzackly what you venting about. har har. get it vent...vent...gas...vent....nevermind

I've spent the last hour reading about the woes of my fellow teardroppers and I am reminded again how lucky I am to be comfortably retired, living on pension checks and enjoying my 4 banger Chevy Cruze. Now that I am out of the loop, I often forget what it was like, working 6 days a week, driving the endless freeways, raising 3 kids, paying for a house and 2 cars, saving for yearly vacations and paying for braces on 3 sets of teeth and later for 3 weddings. Fortunately, times were better then, and anyone who was willing to work and show up on time, could get a decent job. So, I guess I am fortunate to not worry about where my next meal is coming from or if I can afford to attend the next TD gathering.

Being frugal does have it's rewards, I've never bought a 5 dollar cup of coffee or blown 125 bucks on a concert that I just had to attend and we ate our meals at home, most of the time. The way I see it, most folks are living way beyond their means, spending credit card dollars that they will never be able to pay, and then bitch about how awful life is treating them. So, being 80 years old does have some advantages, loving life, making friends and enjoying my dog. Hang in there folks, hopefully many will also make it to 80 and beyond. Life is really great and we are lucky to be alive at this day and age, so enjoy.
8) Roly.....PS, kiss your mate often and tell him or her that you are still in love........every day!

Roly,

I see it all the time being in the housing industry.
The young, and middle aged folks complaining that life isn't fair, that they have no money for anything, and that rich people should help them out by sharing...

These same folks smoke a couple packs of cigarettes a day, drink a six pack or more every night, and feed/support a couple dogs or other pets along with their children and then put gas in big gas sucking cars/trucks that they use to irritate everyone by driving too fast and revving the engine because they think they are impressing someone...

But hey, they "don't have any money" so I suppose we should feel sorry for them...not!
Without fail, every repossessed home I have ever had to inspect/clean out has an abundance of loose change lying on the floor.
Indicating that these people did not understand the value of money, how to budget, or how to be responsible to themselves or others.
Very sad, because it doesn't have to be this way.

Rob

Slow, I would not work for somebody I did not know, for money that might not be paid, so I would not use that example to say that other people are lazy.

Now, for a friend, yes. I have planted trees, no wages, for the exercise and to help out a friend. That's a whole different thing. I can also call it quits when I'm tired and head for home. :)

slow gas was 3.11 here in town when I was headed home from the hospital around 11:30 pm.
I had another quick well not quick stay in the ER over 6 hours trying to get relief from the pain.

I too have worked for "things" other than money when I was young I worked for a farmer picking strawberries he paid
me in strawberries better than cash to a kid.
Then that fall I helped dig potatoes he paid me in potatoes that helped feed all 5 of us,
I have worked for a car another farmer had an old beat up car when I ask what he wanted he ask if
I had ever dug fence post I hadn't but he showed me where to dig and I got a car.

sometimes labor for food is a good thing other times like now I couldn't dig a post hole if my life depended on it.
but with the help of your and my friends we will get by all it takes sometimes is to ask.
right now I need my gutters cleaned I ask the neighbor he said sure but I had to ask he didn't know they needed cleaned.

I just sold my old car to a neighborhood guy, he was always looking for work or scrap metal, after he helped me move two pianos with only the promise of some money I figured out it was better to let him work around the yard for a car than to sell t to the scrap yard. two days later we had a huge tree come down in Sandy, he worked off that car in about a week. Of course he is in his 50's, the young punks around here wouldn't want to break a sweat...it just isn't cool.

Gas came down to $4:00/Gal in Juneau this week. I think that's the lowest it has been since Feb/March (Yeah!!!).

I was checking other spots in Alaska. Gas is $6.62 in Unalakleet out in the bush. It will stay that way until the next barge loads of gas come in after spring breakup. (ugh)

I've noticed a trend. People seem to just cave and say, "Well, I won't let the government keep me from my travels!" That's fine. You're not fighting the government. You're promoting higher gas prices. You're telling everyone that it's still ok to continue to raise prices. NOT driving when prices go beyond a certain acceptable amount is what makes the oil companies drop their BS and listen to the consumer. Yes, one person alone won't make a statement, but if everyone in a town or county did it, it would be a spark. The oil isn't owned by the government. It's owned by the private sector. Nobody's willing to fight for anything anymore because it's uncomfortable. "I don't want to give anything up, I just want to live my life and get more." When gas gets to $7/gal here, it's not the government, it's not the oil company, it's us. We allowed it to happen.

The government doesn't control gas prices. Other than the tax on gasoline, the price is set by oil companies.

Gas prices have nothing do to with who is in office.

If you don't like who's in office, everything is their fault.
