Never figured you for Steam Punk.

Hmm, a purple velvet helm with swirling brass ball governor and a periscope?

Just the Farnsworth alone , and those Tesla guns... and the computer keyboard ... 8)

Scheduled to slice the Foam on Saturday (with helpers) ... Making the big "cheese slicer” HW table cutter ... all temporary, 2X4s clamped to a big folding table ... multitasking , those 2X4 will be 2 of the cross braces on the trailer floor later ... Not only going to slice the FS foam , but the foam for the Paddleboard project too ... all in one go ... Another major step going to be out of the way ... I’ll be sure to take pictures and schmaybe’ a video ... :pictures:

Well , as things would go , the big cheese slicer idea worked , except we kept breaking the wire .... So out came the trusty old HW bow and we managed to get all 9 blocks sliced up , using the 2X4s as templates ... enough for the FS and the two paddle boards ... about 3 hours time .... sorry no pics , it was a frenzy of cutting , getting close to dark ... and then the mosquitoes came out ... :o
Anyway, here’s the finished stack of sheets ...

That's getting to be an impressive pile of materials: you gonna start building sometime soon ?!?

J/K...looks like great progress to someone who's standing still.

What do you figure was breaking the wire ?
Could get enough heat out of it ?

Soon as I get the trailer prepped and install the floor .... then skeleton , then foam .... from measurements/calculations , I should have a little extra... :D

Started with a G-string (guitar) , then tried .032 Music wire .... neither worked, both broke in short order , probably too much Heat I could only turn the Variac up a tiny bit ... The HW bow had solid Stainless fishing leader wire ,thin , and worked the whole time with no problems  ... I have to experiment more with this ... Maybe even spring for some real nichrome wire ... what I was supposed to be using all along ...

Maybe gut a thrift-store toaster or toaster oven ?
That's got to be cheaper than buying the wire just for the purpose...and you'd have the rheostat, too.

How does that old saying go?

Nichrome wire can usually be had from a heat and AC shop, ask them to give you the old coil element from an electric heater when they replace a bad one.

Glen we used aircraft safety wire for our HW crosscut saw looking rig and a train transformer
when we built most of two airplanes safety wire was what we had on hand worked great
but the nichrome wire from amazon may be cheaper.

Pete , I’ve thought about this and the only conclusion was there was some “give” holding the bow with hands , whereas the “slicer” just put too much pressure at once on the wire ... :o
