Also some of the murders were drug related from drug deals from across the boarder.

Actually A US based TV program, 48 hours aired the Highway of Tears episode this past Sunday. From what I saw, most of these murders have not been solved, and the suspects were locals. I didn't see any mention of cross border drug deals. They were local drug dealers. These murders/disappearances have been going on since 1969. I sounds like a pretty scaring place to me. We certainly don't have that problem where I live. I don't even lock my doors. At work, several people leave their keys in their car ignitions. The crime problems you perceive in the US are not prevalent everywhere.

Many years ago a I had a discussion with a friend from Montreal about crime in the US vs Canada which have a similar land mass. He said it was simple math.. The US has more than 10 times the population of Canada. 10 times the people equate to more problems. Also he mentioned that most of Canada's population is centered in a few large cities that indeed have serious and continuing crime problems. It's the same in the US, large cities foster more crime.

This discussion is about carrying concealed firearms. I personally don't, as I don't feel the need, however, if I lived anywhere near the Highway of tears with 18 murders of young women, and drug dealers having their heads removed, I would certainly think about carrying a gun. Oh wait! I forgot you had that RIGHT taken from you... Now only the murders have the guns.

Here, try this: All statistics are from Texas Department of Public Safety website, and BC's Ministry of Justice website.
Estimated Population of BC- 4,400,000 people
Estimated Population of Texas- 25,674,681 (roughly 5.5 times the population of BC)
last year aggravated / violent assaults in BC- 36716
last year aggravated / violent assaults in Texas- 71561

So in BC, the violent assault rate is 1 in every 120 citizens
in Texas the violent assault rate is 1 in every 359 citizens..

Biziedizie, I have been following this thread with great interest. While I do not own a gun I believe in gun ownership by law abiding citizens. I do have my FOID card and may PM a couple people in this thread for recommendations on what to buy.

With that out of the way it seems you breezed by the facts posted above without responding. DTCOOPER makes a pretty compelling argument that you should address. Since the entire population of Canada is about the same as the state of California it leaves a really unfair comparison to life in America. Given DT's statistics it would seem that we need to be very vigilant traveling in Canada because we are more likely to be harmed there then staying home. Plus we know that if we get into trouble the best we can hope for is a local will try and talk the perpetrator out of harming us.

biziedizie,

I had planned to stay out of this but, do a quick search for "Langley B.C Canada, crystal meth" and you will see that you don't live in such a nice safe area.

And from what I hear, it is hard to resolve a conflict over a beer with a tweaker who wants to kill you because he thinks you are a dragon.

Len,
There is no chest pounding going on. But your self righteous indignation is asinine. I suppose since you're a cop you have a serious superiority complex. When you get to dictate morality, constitutional rights, and campground laws, let me know.. So I can avoid you as well.
If you're that scared of guns, I'd suggest you find a new line of work.

Think about how fortunate we are, that this is the biggest thing we have to worry about !

Hell, we could be over in the middle east, where everyone has guns, the kids have bombs, and they drag dissidents behind vehicles..

I love my little slice of moderate crime laden heaven. :applause:

Should look in your own backyard  Gawd I just spent 4grand on a tv and all that's on is murder and conflict and guess where all the streams are from?
Yes I live in a safe place because the R.C.M.P have control over the few people that are unfortunate to have addiction problems.
Yes these people can be a pain to society but thankfully they don't have easy access to guns.

I am looking in my own back yard, which is why I used a tweaker trying to kill dragons as an example of something that could never happen in your area because it is safe, at least according to you.. That happened the next town over from me and I live in a "safe" area. And whats more he used his bare hands to kill the people he thought were dragons, no gun needed.

This whole discussion has gone to hell in a hand bag by two new members that haven't even been on the board 6 months. Why don't you both take a break and do something about building or buying a teardrop trailer. And biziedizie, why don't you take your own advice and stay North of the border.

This should do it.

Gage,
I do hope you're not referring to me.. If you check out the CT thread, I've been a building as fast as I can !
And this is the off topic section.. By definition I'd think that meant that it's designed and intended for discussion of things that aren't related to teardrop building..
I only stop building long enough to come here and get some comic relief...

Its not me who's being asinine....I'm not a Cop. A simple look at my profile could have told you that.

I'm a business owner.
