No More Twinkies

But miraculously, companies with no union involvement, remain solvent and turning a profit for their share holders. I understand that CEO salaries and the inequity in workplace pay leaves a lot to be desired. But please name me one industry that has been made more profitable, more efficient, or better, by union involvement ?

The Teamsters agreed in September to a deal with reduced pay and benefits. But the Bakery Workers union rejected the deal and went on strike. Hostess warned that if the strike continued it would not be able to stay in business. But the strike went on. And now Hostess is out of business.

I know people who'd jump at 30k a year...one who's making half that working at lowes because that's all he can find. Did I mention that he's got a degree with 4 kids and one on the way.

Who's holding a gun to their heads? If things were so bad there, then why don't they find some place better that pays more? If they can't find something better then maybe it's just not that bad there after all.

I don't want to see anyone good unemployed. But there are no guarantees that you'll make now what you made then. Time served does not equal what time is worth. A skill that is valuable today may not be as valuable tomorrow.

Speaking for myself, 20 years ago, I made a decent living building building PCs. Today, it's a near minimum wage job. 10 years ago a system administrator I was making more than these union workers...Today it's an entry level job. That's how job markets work some times. You need to constantly evolve...that's antithetical to what unions stand for.

Not to mention there's a lot of empty twinkie shelves out there that need filling!

Dont you worry your selves about Twinkies. The name alone is work gazillions. Somebody will crank out the Twinkies there is no doubt!

I had a cat that liked to eat twinkies. She would eat about a half of one twinkie then she would be sick for about two days.

I haven't had a Twinkies in probably 15 years, but the day I heard they were going out of business I went to the store to pick some up, just to get one last taste of them, and they were all sold out.

So maybe this is all just a big marketing gimmick to get people like me to go buy twinkies?

I once read that there are so many preservatives in Twinkies that they have a very long shelf life. So if you can still find them...don't be afraid to buy up several year's worth

Not true....they last only about 6 months....you tube it...

Hostess (International Brands) is toast...but as stated some one will buy it. Just hope they put quality back into the ingredient list...hostess has been slipping for years....

Yep, with the greenbacks that Bernanke is printing every month, wouldn't take but about a week's worth to bail them out, and give the union bosses big fat raises to boot.

Zingers are Dolly Madison, so they are still out there. as far as the government bailing them out, they don't make anything that MA O thinks is healthy. Don't worry, they will be bought and production will return. for a little while, at least. I haven't had a Twinkie for several years (a fried one at that), haven't missed them at all.

I’m going to miss their cherry turnovers. They were good travel snacks to pick up when you stopped for gas going to a gathering a long ways away.
