anybody watching the new Dallas series?

I always thought Cliff was such an idiot in the original series, I rather enjoyed seeing JR screw him over. Cliff was as mean and vindictive as JR at times, he was just too stupid to capitalize on it.

btw: we're currently watching the old DVD's and are up to the dream season (9 or 10?). So I'm kinda clueless about what happened after that, except I do remember watching some on TV in the late 1980's.

question: Wasn't Pam involved in a fiery crash that left her disfigured and ashamed to return? Was that when she left the series?

Don't hold me to this, because it's been a while, but I seem to recall that the West Star deal was all a part of the thing with Barbara Eden's character.

She came in, posing as somebody who was going to buy Ewing Oil from JR, which would have allowed him to have enough money to buy controlling interest in West Star and take it from Carter McKay.

She bought it but ended up screwing him, somehow. Selling it to April Stevens' sister instead. Can't remember her name.

At any rate, he ended up not having enough shares to take over the West Star and was left out in the cold.

By the end of the show, Ewing Oil had been sold off to Cliff Barnes and JR pretty much had nothing.

In the TV movie, JR Returns, it ended up with JR in control of West Star and Bobby and Sue Ellen owning Ewing Oil.

There was another TV movie after that, The War of the Ewings. Centered more on the ranch, though. Didn't really contribute much to anything.

Yeah. Supposedly she had her sister, Katherine, pay off a nurse to get her out of the hospital.

The character, Pam, returned for one episode after that. But, it wasn't Victoria Principal playing the character. She met with Bobby in a darkened room, supposedly to hide her disfigurement. She told him that she had fallen in love with her doctor and didn't want to see him again. So, he granted her a divorce.

After he left, though, her doctor came in the room and it was said that she was found to have inoperable cancer while undergoing treatment for the accident and she knew that if she didn't want Bobby and Christopher to watch her die.

The character was never seen or heard from after that, so, one would ASSUME that she died but they wouldn't know anything about it.

As with anything else, though, since nothing was ever seen she may well be alive.

Cidre said she had no plans while writing the first season to have Pam return. There continues to be, however, a huge push to have the character return. So, who knows.

Supposedly, Victoria Principal was approached about doing the series finale of the original show and she turned it down. She later said, however, that it wasn't made clear to her that it was the end of the series and, if she had known that it was the series finale, rather than just a season finale, that she would have done it.

Take that for what it's worth, I guess.

He helped lay an excellent foundation in this new series and played a pivotal role in the plotlines. Can't wait to see how they write his passing into the script. RIP  and thanks for the memories. Bravo! Well done! :applause:

i hope they do him justice when the second season starts back up. he already filmed a few eppys, so we should see him in those. but i hope they don't replace him, but have him pass on some way.
i was getting the updated posts on fb, signed by jr. since about the 19th of november, ann was doing the postings. i was wondering why. i suppose this is why.

The NEW series has been airing on TNT. Now they are trying to figure out how to phase Larry out. Even thou they knew he wasn’t well, his death was unexpected. :(

Was stunned to hear about this earlier. From what I saw over on ultimatedallas.com he was due to film at South Fork on Wednesday, so it clearly caught them off guard.

Not sure how many eps of the new season they got in the can before he died. I think they started shooting in September so hopefully at least half the season.

I can't really figure out how to handle this best. John Ross/Josh Henderson isn't ready to be elevated to the lead heel role. They still need somebody to mentor him.

Here is how I'd handle it... you guys can feel free to rip it apart or whatever.

I'd have him get killed by the Venezuela group that wanted the oil from South Fork. That gives John Ross a reason to hate Bobby and Christopher because he could say if Bobby had just given them the oil like JR wanted he'd still be alive.

From there, that leaves an opening for somebody to come in and sort of fill the mentor void left by JR. Sue Ellen is a likely choice, but it's too easy. I'd, personally, flip the whole thing around and hook him up with Cliff Barnes. Barnes is already a similar role and there would be an interesting dynamic there to see who would screw who first, him or John Ross.

Ultimately, it's very hard to imagine Dallas without Hagman and JR. They won't recast. That would be a huge mistake. Best to try and make the best out of a bad situation and use it to shape John Ross' character in a similar way that they did with Jock's death for JR (although, JR was already far more evil than John Ross by that point).

i think i read they had made like 10 eppys? i can't really remember if that was right. but i also think i saw a small clip where they were filming in what looks to be a hospital. main characters were outside of a room in the hallway. main characters except jr. i am wondering if by some chance larry knew it would not be too much longer, and peraps they did do a scene in the hospital. this is speculation on my part.

and i do agree, that john ross is not ready to take over a lead role. right now he is just to much of a baby punk. cliff would be a great mentor. and speaking of cliff, i wonder how hard it will be in real life to continue to act like he hates jr.

I haven't seen the scene you're talking about. Could be, unless Bobby wasn't in it either. Could be a carry over from his ordeal at the end of last season.

With respect to Kercheval, I have to think it's going to be pretty hard on all of them to talk about JR once they start filming again. Probably going to have to hold off for a bit. No doubt quite a few re-takes.

I wonder if any of the other originals will be brought in as a result. They had asked Joan Van Arc and Ted Shackleford to be there for the premier but Shackleford declined saying there didn't seem to be a real point to it and didn't want to simply do a quick walk on like they did with Tilton and Kanaly.

Would have to think they could find a reason to write a bit more for him now beyond JR's funeral, assuming they do one. They didn't do one for Jock. They only had a reading of the will when they decided to not re-cast the role. Gary didn't show up for that. He did for Bobby's funeral, though.

Will also be curious to see if they bring back any of the other characters associated with JR from the original show. Cally or James. I have no desire to see either of them in the show but it would make sense for them to be there if there's a funeral.

Although, given the friction between John Ross and James it might make for a decent story line if there was a fight over JR's shares of Ewing Energy.

bobby was in the scene that looked like a hospital hallway. linda grey also and i think one of the boys. i read a little more today, and of course i don't know how true any of this is but, i think that val and gary will be back. and i read, 6 out of 15 eppys have already been shot.
i guess we will just have to wait and see. but i can't wait for it to start back. come on jan 28th!

Hmmm. If it's only 6 out of the 15 then my original thought that they would hold off until the end of the season to address his death might not work. If they had filmed 10 then they could hold off until the next to the last episode to acknowledge his death.

I think they should use the finale toward building for the next season. Give people a reason to tune in. 8 or 9 episodes might be a bit long. They'll need something to happen during those episodes to keep ratings up.
