scored some vintage Griswold aluminum cookware

I was driving through Charles Town, WV today and decided to stop at an used items store. My wife and I decided this past summer to equip/decorate our woodie tear with vintage stuff so it has become habit to check out antique stores, flea markets etc....
In the cookware section I found these interesting pieces. The price was right, $30, and it said Griswold on the bottom so I took a few quick pics wih the phone and sent them to my wife. She looked up what she could find on the internet and said get em'!

I am trying to do some research on them now but can't find much on this particular design. If anyone knows anything about them, please comment.

The lids appear to be an early plastic, like Bakelite. I am guessing they were made in or near the 40's.

In the late 40's early 50's there was a great push for "waterless cookware" I recently investigated Miracle Maid waterless cookware and these puppys were outrageously expensive. 4 and 5 piece sets with lids were $400.00 to $500.00 for the sets. Remember the average bread winner was bring home $65 - $85 a week at that time if he was lucky.

I am sure this is part of that market media push. The war was over and aluminum was now plentiful so is born the aluminum pan era.

If you google image " griswold aristocraft" you will see your pot!

A small snippette from the web site......Griswold's line of cast aluminum largely mirrored the designs of its cast iron. Griswold would go on to introduce its own more stylish Aristocraft Ware line in the 1940s

Yeah I thought about that. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal when used only a few times a year. I also may just shine them up and try reselling them to a collector.

Decades ago when I moved away from home my mom gave me an aluminum pot to make my spaghetti sauce.
Later on she warned me of it's toxicity and it ended up in the trash.

Actually antiperspirant will put a lot more aluminum in your tissue than cooking in aluminum pots. I was not happy when Suzy gave away my aluminum pans. If your not cooking something very acidic there isn't a problem and even then it isn't as big a deal as spreading aluminum chloro-hydrate under your arms every day.
