like a twinkie in shape, put the yellow cake part is chocolate, and instead of the white filling inside, it is peanut butter, and then its covered in chocolate. they really are/were good.

When I was younger, at $0.15 I'd spring for a Hostess treat. As the got more expensive (now well over a buck)a buck, I decided to pass on em. The company failed to change with the times (management's problem) and the Union, apparently, required (probably among other unproductive practices) that the bread and treats had to be delivered on separate trucks and put on the shelves by different folks.

I won't miss em.

Cheers,

Gus

My .02......

I used to work for Hostess/Wonder Bread in the NW area in the late 80's early 90's...I was a route driver. Even when I was there Hostess was bought out atleast once if not twice if I remember correctly. We had several "combo routes" (a driver would take in not only cake but also bread into a store) and I did vacation relief for a few of them. There were always health conscious people out there but I remember at that time it became more important for people and it definitely affected sales....however the one HUGE affect on sales - for the NW at least - was Lil Debbie entering the marketplace. You think the shelf life of a Twinkie is long (and no, it's not....5-7 days) check out the pull date on a box of Lil Debbie cakes....scary. It was very difficult for Hostess to compete with Lil Debbie when they had cut rate crap for sale at half the price. In our area at least, Lil Debbie was non union (drivers owned their routes)....I'm no shill for the union at all, and one could say that the marketplace determined the fate of Hostess...but with Lil Debbie not having to deal with union requirements ($$$) several of us saw the writing on the wall early on....

Wal Mart's Great Value brand makes a twinkie copycat. I can't tell the difference. They also make a copycat for ding dongs and the chocolate cupcakes.

Gotta agree with ace man. It is always the little guy that takes the blame and loses. Greed on both sides for sure, you can bet the CEO got a sweet deal, golden parachute deal. I an sure that with all the chemicals in them they can be made in china by children making slave wages 12 hours a day 6 days a week, Then loaded on a slow boat and the ones that make it past the boat rats will still taste great! Then the profits can go into the communist China War Machine instead of into the US economy.
Gotta love a "Global" economy, it sure has helped to ruin ours. The workers can all go to Walmart and work for $8.85 per hour. Try and support a family on that. Read an interesting comment the other day. A high percentage of Low wage Walmart workers are also getting Tax Payer supplied entitlements such as housing, food, medical care, etc. and really the Government is Subsidizing walmarts profits. Interesting. Again just my opinion, we all have one. Bill

What we are hearing in Toledo (the home of Twinkies) is that there are many bids (more than a 100) for Hostess so I expect that the demise is temporary.

I'm just hoping they (whoever) keeps making Claxton Fruit cakes, Hostess has been selling them with their label on them for a while now. you haven't had a fruit cake until you've had one. kind of like comparing a McChicken to Chick-fil-a, there is no contest.

Not just your opinion, but fact. Any job paying less than a living wage is ripping off the tax payers and subsidizing corporate profits. Any corporation paying less than a living wage should be fined 10 times the cost of the benefits going to their workers.

And just what is the living wage? I make a little over $22,500 a year and am doing just fine. We even go out to eat once a week. I know some that make better than $50,000 and complain that they don't make enough to live on. So tell me, just what is considered a living wage and where does that figure come from?
