Alternative side covering

Hello folks from across the pond.

I've tracked down an interesting product (apologies if it's been posted here before which most thing have!).

It's a polythene/aluminum composite sheet, which is used for outdoor signs etc. Comes pre painted in white, and as I am playing with ideas for slightly bigger than 8x4, was pleased to see they do this in just under 5x10.

Cost here in the UK is an amazing £56 + tax for a 5x10, which is approx $107.

Just wondered what you guys thought.... cookie cuttter wall with rigid foam inserts then mainly fix the composite to the outside using Sikaflex, or VHB.

The fact you woouldn't need ply - with all the inherent worries about delamination down the line...

And if you're happy with white, it would be a flawless factoryt finish, which could look beautiful with just some good custom graphics.

Of course this is all still hyperthetical! Still can';t persuade Mrs Mallymal she really needs a teadrop, and I've been lurking on here for so many years, it's getting embrassing.

Interesting. Near the bottom of the page, where the size is mentioned, it says (2 mil). I believe that's 2 thousandths of an inch thick. The aluminum most people use is 30 or 40 thousandths. Even if it were quite thick, I would want something solid behind it to prevent dents.

Re the whole mil/thou thing Woodywrking, That's a good spot, and I shall have to dig deeper. I'd just assumed they meant 2mm or 3mm (ie millimetres, which in the UK is verbally abbreviated to "mil"). It might only be the product they call hoard board which is 3mm thick - (in other words, roughly 1/8th of an inch).

Having said that, I dont see how they could make a product only 2 thou thick, which consisted of a polythene core, with aluminium sandwiched on each side!

That's 2 millimeters .07874 inches

Take her camping in a tent on a cold wet April weekend Thats what made mine say she wasnt camping anymore then i discovered this site in it previous guise and she was hooked.

The fact that it has taken me 3 years to go nowhere is neither here nor there we have most of the materials, all be it plywood, just lacking time and space but that will soon be rectified
