question about drawer slides

Postby jeff0520 » Sat Dec 01, 2012 10:50 pm

Hello everybody.
The Command Post as I'm building it does not have any counter space inside. My wife opted to trade counter space for more storage space. I thought we might need counter space inside. As a compromise I decided to make a slide-out work surface. It seems simple enough, A nice hardwood table top that slides out on a set of heavy duty drawer slides would be perfect.
I drive a tractor trailer for a living, and my truck has a slide out desk top that is very similar to what I want. One feature the truck's slide out desk has is drawer slides that lock in the extended position to make the desktop more stable. I want those same sort of locking drawer slides for the camper, but I'm having no luck at all finding them.
Maybe I don't know the proper name for the things to search for the correct words. Anyone have any ideas on how to find what I'm looking for?
thanks

Accuride's "Lock Open" slides have the feature you're looking for.

Ok, the only term I found for accuride was "detent out" and that only showed me cases of drawer slides. I don't need, and didn't want to pay for 100 of the darned things

http://www.drawerslides.com sells the brand you mentioned in single pairs or in bulk. I used another model by the same company and found they are very high quality slides although not cheap. The two electrical Chinese items I used on my build failed so they ended up being more expensive and has led me to buy higher quality parts for anything that is built in and not easily replaced.

A number of years ago, I found some for someone that wanted a pull-out desk surface for a computer armoire here http://www.wwhardware.com/drawer-and-door-slides/

I can't find exactly what I did then, but they have them.

I've had really good service from them whether I'm ordering one of an item or a thousand.

Accuride refers to them as "Detent Out".

Here's one example:

Look around on their site for the size and weight capacity that you need. They do list both single pair and bulk purchase, so read the descriptions carefully.

That company has really good customer service in case the unthinkable happens. UPS delivered mine to a neighbor who was out of town and Drawerslides.com sent out a duplicate order almost as soon as I called them. Accuride products I have used are very smooth and high quality. You'll be pleased with your choice.
