Take one old 38' International tractor, add an 80's frame and running gear, and top it off with a teardrop cap and what do you get? A fun rat-rod.

That's because they either don't exist or they are hidden. I tried to find them to post but couldn't find them. I even fixed his coding and they still wouldn't show.

Would love to find an old VW diesel truck (haven't shipped to the US in years 60's I think)and build a really high mileage camper. They sell a newer version overseas :x .

Yeah, Gage.that was a brain-fart on my end, I used the wrong link. Strange thing is that the photos disappeared from my album and I had to reload them. The sides on that truck were made from metal reels that they use for wire. I have more of them on my Facebook page and photos (777 and counting) of my trailer builds if anybody is interested, http://www.facebook.com/TearsOJoy?ref=hl (that way I don't load up the T&TTT server.)

See you folks when I get back from my road trip, delivering Virginia over to the other end of the state and have to leave out real early in the morning.

The owner of the truck told me he has a real "junkyard" where he lives :o and in it he has a Divco in good shape. Might just have to pay him a visit.....

I drive an '81 rabbit diesel truck. It does about 70 on a flat freeway. Pulling a small boat lowers that to about 55-60. I haven't tried pulling a teardrop. Great vehicle for the mileage but don't expect to go anywhere fast. Here's the best conversion I've ever seen. I doubt it does much over 55 fully loaded unless it's a turbo, but then you lose the fuel savings. Might as well have a toyota.

Notice this caddy is extended a foot or more in back. The bed in my truck is 6x4 feet. Its about 3 feet from the floor to the top of the cab. These things are tiny. I camp in mine with a truck-tent and topper. It's tight but doable. When set up I can sleep in the truck and have a 10x10 attached tent for sitting and storage.

I'm still trying to make something that is light and fits within the bed but still provides enough room to sit, eat, and sleep in. The biggest problem is headroom without a permanent tall camper with it's weight and wind resistance. Anything built over the cab is going to drop speed and mileage considerably.

I think the popup tents used in a motorcycle camper might be the best solution but I'm afraid to spend that much money and then cut and sew it to fit the truck.

oh, and... They made them in south africa until this year. Now they are no longer made anywhere. :(
