Been listening to Guy Davis lately. He has a "Hobo Blues" style that I really like.

I pretty much like all kinds of GOOD music or any music that
is done well. But I absolutely HATE rap/hip-hop. It's an insult
to music itself to call that stuff music.

Anyway, one the latest things I've been listening to is a revisit to a favorite
artist - Chris Isaak - and my favorite song of his:

[(You) Can't Do A Thing To Stop Me"]
http://www.chrisisaak.com/media/videos/15721/40311

I also like any singer who has a voice that in itself is an "instrument".

I recently have started to look at YouTube some, and have discovered
that there is actually a good bit of interesting musical talent out there
amongst all the otherwise.

A couple singers that I 'just' came across, are a couple of young German singers
with great voices:

Michael Schulte - a great pure voice. He reminds me somewhat of Art Garfunkle.
He has a ton of cover videos on YouTube and was on the 'The Voice of Germany'
singing show. [It seems like just about every country now has a "Voice' or 'Idol'
type singing show now.] He now has an album or two out I understand.

[His Cover of: "Mad World" by Tears For Fears - in English]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGaHnSyO ... &index=132

Rudiger Skoczowsky - is the other new singer I just came across. His voice has a great tone/
sound to it and he can really use it! Not over the top but just right. I'd consider him a male
voice equivalent/comparable to Celine Dion. Oh, and he was the 2011 'Voice of Germany' contest
winner too. No album out yet.

[Cover - Get Here If You Can - in English]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=en ... d5pEQ&NR=1

I also just recently saw The Tenors [formerly the Canadian Tenors] on PBS here during
one of their [PBS} fundraising drives. Talk about four guys with great voices ! They do
a good variety of song styles too, not just 'classical' songs.

[Click on the 'Forever Young' video.]

Since there is no more Top 40 radio format anymore, I guess we just have to search
out good music for ourselves now.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

I collect vinyl records (mostly 45's) and have been listening to my Christmas records from the 40's through the 80's. All the ones that were popular on the radio throughout the years. Last night I bought a box of Christmas 78's at an auction...so I was listening to those this evening. I especially like the novelty Christmas songs...even "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer"!!

"Do you remember the Mountain Bed" by Billy Bragg and Wilco. Kind of relates to teardropping and makes you want to get out into nature.

I have about 12,000 45's from the 50's and 60's streaming. http://oldiesarchive.net or search http://shoutcast.com for Oldies Archive. I've only been doing it for a couple of weeks so not exactly ready for prime time but I'm working on it. Joe Bob says "check it out".

The Sugarcubes - F***ing in Rhythm & Sorrow and others from them. It was good to get those CDs ripped again. I do like Bjork's music. Carly Simon's We Your Dearest Friends is queued up next.

Many years ago one of my sons friends came to our house and later asked Dan "how come your parents listen to music with out words"? We listen mostly to classical music with occasional excursions in to bluegrass/folk and when traveling I like to listen to Broadway. I just finished changing the power plug in the trailer that goes to one of the XM radio cradle/mounts. I had switched from Sirius to an XM receiver when one failed and of course they do not use the same size power plug.

Today it's a little rockabilly. Brian Setzer, Imelda May, Devil Doll.

Tomorrow, who knows?
