I can think of a couple problems with rings. One is the area where she works...wouldn't want to hear that somebody took it from her or worse. The other is that rings can catch on equipment. I came close to loosing a finger one time because a ring caught. I've sometimes thought that tattooing a pretty designed ring on the finger might be better. I think I might be chicken to do that, though.

The Amish have a practice where unmarried men don't have beards and unmarried women wear their hair down. Once they marry, the man must grow a beard and the woman must wear her hair up.

Still, giving a woman a ring is supposed to be a promise that you are sincere in your proposal. Where there's a will, there's a way.

I suspect most girls are pretty traditional, i.e. show me the ring. But I also suspect that once you've shown the ring, you've gotta follow up. Girls are very sentimental.

I was lucky enough to have my husband make my ring. It was made using the lost wax method. His dad had a kiln or whatever you call it to melt the gold into the form. The gold was found in the Nevada hills. I have a real special ring. The 4 hearts are for our 4 kids from previous marriages.

WOW! What a terrific and special thing to do! I wouldn't think that it would be that easy to find gold in the hills still. I'm assuming that you or Randy hand-carved the wax into its shape. Also, straight gold is too soft; so, you had to know how and how much other metals to add in. ...Nice project that I'm betting you both shared in doing. Does Randy have a ring like that too?

Sharon, it actually is pretty much all gold (a little other stuff) and yes, it is very soft, thus the small scratches you see on it. time to polish it again. No, Randy doesn't have a ring. Wearing a ring in a machine shop is a recipe for disaster, (however I am the one that cut off my finger!) so he has never worn rings, not even a class ring. Randy and his father used to do a lot of prospecting, walking all over the hills. It is hard to find, but still out there. Some of it he bought from other prospectors. They added several different nuggets together, with some other metals. I really don't know how much gold is in it, as it would have to be assayed, I am just happy with it the way it is!

I just want to point out that a ring is optional, both for the wedding and for the engagement. Many couples choose to be wise about saving and keep things simple. it's the commitment that counts, not a piece of jewelry. Personally, I don't think an engagement ring is necessary. Nice, maybe, but nothing to bankrupt oneself.

Slow my father was a cowboy he hearded cows many years using a horse and he too wore chaps to protect him from the cold in the winter
and the bramel bushes in the summer.

we always seemed to have at least one horse on the farm.

My farther also road in rodeos mostly bronks but sometimes bramas he and a pardner use to do ropeing as well.

when I was riding horses I mostly did it so my father could see how the horse performed he trained horses either western style or English style.

one little Aribian mare made me grab the saddle horn when unbeknownest to me he had taught her to neck rein when I grabed a big ol' handful of rein
to make a turn she went one way and if not for me grabbing the saddle horn I would have ended up on my A$$ on the ground.

I wasn't a good rider more like a dude than a cowboy so when I had my little thrill for the day I also got a lecture on how to ride,
but hey I was only 16 I was more interested in girls than horses.

The last horse we had was a cutting horse now that was a wild ride cutting one calf from the herd.
so you see I do know about riding and hearding cows.

one thing you do have over me is I never wore panty hose, only you and Joe Namath could get away with doing that.

But now I know what to get you for Christmas.................just kidding

I had little when Suzy and I got engaged. I gave her a ring that had belonged to my mother. We had a band made that nested with it. Didn't cost much. Years later she bought herself a nice solitaire ring to wear. If she's happy, I'm happy. I'm not overly sentimental and neither, apparently, is she, ha.

Me, I work with my hands and use tools and machines. I like my finger so I've never worn a ring. Her father never wore a ring either so it's not an issue.

I suggest you buy a box of "Cracker Jack". Maybe you'll get lucky and the prize will be a ring. At a minimum you'll get some candy coated popcorn, peanuts, and a smile.

Actually, pantyhose are (is?) recommended for dudes on dude ranches because the pantyhose helps keep leg chafing down.

Panty hose is also worn by the men (and the women) on the northern beaches here in Oz. The men and women are the lifesavers who rescue the people who have been stung by the killer jellyfish that come here in the summer months. The panty hose prevents the jellyfish from recognizing or detecting that there is tissue beneath the panty hose and they don't fire their stinging barbs at the lifesavers. The jellyfish (Irukandji) can kill if treatment is not given. If you survive the initial sting, the intense pain can last for months. It's far better (for the men) to look stupid and live to save others in the water.
