Building manual for when you don't know what you don't know

Postby shanna7 » Sun Dec 16, 2012 2:56 pm

We're a pretty handy couple and have about 75% of our Grumman 2 trailer designed in CAD. However, we keep realizing there's a lot we don't know, then spend a few hours lurking in the forum for answers. So I'd REALLY like to get a construction guide so we don't forget some critical part of the trailer or that we're not re-inventing the wheel in how we do things (unless it's intentional).

I'm talking about:
-The best ways to attach walls to the floor/trailer.
-Water tank location & design
-Complexity of DIY doors
-What to use for aluminum trims at intersection of walls & roof.
-Finishing details
-Sealing ideas

Consequently, I want to buy a construction manual, and so far the top contender is the Camping Classics Teardrop Build Manual, but since it's woody-based, I'm wondering if there's something similar for those of us doing aluminum skins, or if the Camping Classics one is versatile enough that we can get answers to our questions there.

Thanks for your input!!!
Anything worth doing is worth overdoing to keep it interesting!

Start there. If you have more questions, post up. Most of your questions should have some kind of answer in that index, though. Also the forum search feature can help.

Information on Steve Fredericks' shop manual: http://tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=21131

Most just float the aluminum over a plywood skin anyway, so what you want to do is adaptable.

Hi Shanna7, You might also contact Grant Whipp at Lil Bear Tag Alongs. He's a great guy with phenomenal knowledge about building these little trailers and doesn't mind helping those with crazy ideas. :? I got all my aluminum trim, door seals and many more items from him. Here's a link: http://www.lilbear.teardrops.net/index.html I also highly recommend Steve Fredericks' shop manual. It proved to be one if not the best purchase for my build.

All the Best,

Dave

All the stumbling blocks you have listed have been discussed multiple times. Finding them is the problem !

Here is a hidden treasure you need to learn to use.

We hide it in the design resources tab at the top of the opening screen.
