try try again ordered another trailer

Postby pete42 » Wed Dec 19, 2012 1:20 pm

I talked to Randy Thomas of RNR trailers in Michigan today.

I am going to try once more to get a trailer I want I've been feeling pretty good
and I would like to go a couple of places this coming spring and summer

I will have to cut down on a lot of the options I wanted but like others have shown here there are ways around that.

what I will be giving up vs doing it another way IE: roof AC unit at $900 vs AC thru the side at a cost of $100 to $150.
that and getting a 12 footer vs a 14 footer altho that may change with the money I save on the roof AC would go a long towards
getting a 14 footer everything is up for discussion.

I will head up north in January to the RNR plant to make sure I get what I want where I want it located.

In the past I've had to postpone getting one but I'm hoping health holds this time.

Pete,

Glad to here your feeling better. For just a small amount of money I'd go ahead and get the 14 ft, makes all the difference in the world for what you can layout inside. Lots of luck!!!!!!!

pete42,

Glad to hear you are feeling better and looking at getting another trailer. I agree with Mike, if you can swing it the extra 2' is worth it. That is a good looking trailer!

Glad to see that your health has improved.

Are you looking at 6' wide or 7' wide? Single axle or tandem axle? What is your tow vehicle? If you think you may want to install propane tanks and / or batteries on tongue, get an extended tongue. (I learned this the hard way.) Buy big now. If you want a 14', buy a 14' or 16'. (I also learned this the hard way.)

thanks for all the encouragement yep health issues are a pain so to speak.

I have my plans drawn I want a 7' wide because I want two bunks facing fwd and aft with a space between
for that late night potty break space doesn't have to be to wide
in some of the trailers I've had crawing over someone to get up and that just dosn't get it.

either 12 foot or 14 foot long would be ok single or double axel doesn't matter
Ive owned scamp trailers with single and I've owned 30 footers with 4 tires I liked both.

main thing I want a cargo trailer for other than the camping which is first but close behind is when we are
on trips and sightseeing in order to unload my mobility scooter the drill is open tailgate place ramps unload scooter
or scooters replace ramps do what ever it is we want to do then open tailgate unload and place ramps load scooters reload ramps.
pretty simple until you do it 4, 5 times like last summer in Baltimore Md. or williamsburg Va. then it takes a toil on me.

I will probley go over it a million times in my mind but if I error it will be for longer not shorter wider not narrower
I have a ford F150 V8 with the towi package seems to handle last trailer very well.

Pete
Glad to hear you are again back in the market for a trailer.
I like the idea of the house window shaker A/C vs the $900. RV model. you can easily spend that money somewhere else. (I wish I would have thought of it) It's surprising how many of the lower end store bought campers have them now. I think you will be happy with a 7 foot wide. Go as big as you can with your tow vehicle, but don't get married to a huge tow vehicle, I think I'm now in that boat. But for me, if I ever down size my tow vehicle, then I'll be forced to sell, then start over, which is fine with me.

Keep us posted on your progress.

I will tell you that I was hired on with the Company that bought out the Company I was with with for the last 12 years. they only hired 5 out of 65. So I'm back in the saddle again, thanks for your prayers.
For now, my trailer is off the market. I never really advertised it, but if this job thing would have fallen through, the trailer may have gone on the auction block.

i have a friend who uses a portable stand up a/c from home depot. he uses a dryer vent hose and vent to exhaust the heat out of the trailer. on hot texas summer days, (95 to 100 degree) he uses a blanket cause his trailer gets to cold. that may be an alternate solution for you.
i have a haulmark 14x8 with the ramp in back and a side door. the ramp is (imho)a better way to go. you could load, unload the scooter easier than dealing with portable ramps. ( these tend to get stolen) of course with the double doors, you drape a tarp across the doors and you have an instant covered porch. lots o luck on your build. if you are in texas, let me know . i really don't need much of an excuse to hitch up and go.

don't know about ramps gettin stolen the windows on my truck cap are tinted hard to see in.
I have thought of the portable a/c unit but I'll need all the floor space I can get I haul two mobility
scooters a huge 4 wheeler for out door stuff and a small 3 wheeler for indoors.

I've been under the weather again so trailer is up in the air right now If I had gotten one back years ago I would be money ahead.
then again I may wake up feeling fine and hit the road north.

thanks Sharon and others as well.
I'm headed toward 71 at a rapid rate and my health seems to be headed south faster.
I may try and find cheap (yea right) older cargo trailer that if I don't get it setup just like I want
at least I'll have one to mess around in.
