Roll the dice, if i didnt build it good enuff, pull the plates and shove her in the ditch.
Im sick of giving up food for useless insurance coverage,
Have some faith in what you built, if you did it right, she will mame it

So if I get a flat tire it's my fault because I didn't build my TD well enough? lol!
I'm thinking this thread is about times when we need roadside assistance and need a helping hand.

I didn't read it that way...
He implied that he didn't believe extra insurance was needed for minor breakdowns.

If someone wants to spend a ton of money for insurance because they might get a flat tire, well...okay... :o

If I have a flat tire, I'll change it, not sit around for hours waiting for a tow truck just because I paid upfront.
If I can't do it myself, I'll pay as I go, since it may never happen.

Some of us deal with things when they happen, others want to have insurance, either way is okay.

I have roadside assistance through AMA (American Motorcycle Association), think it was $33 a year for three years as an introductory price, think it doubles or so after that. It covers any of my vehicles (car, pickup, motorcyle), trailers, or any vehicle I happen to be driving or towing. Haven't had to use it, so I can't say how it is. In reading the literature it doesn't really cover much other than a tow to the nearest repair place or bringing out gas.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

tire changing I'll take care of, however if my transmission or engine die out on the road, I need to know what will happen to my trailer, most tow plans won't deal with the trailer, and leaving it next to the highway is begging trouble. Hiring another tow truck to get the trailer is also pricey.
You need to have a plan on how to deal with a TV failure that leaves your Tear stranded, or you could be on the hook for towing on the trailer, not every state/place will let you leave it in the ditch for a day or two.

if they ever need a tow, a flat fixed, unlock their doors, even come to the house and unlock those doors just call AAA.

I wish I had it when my mom locked her self out of my house
she sat at the neighbors for hours waiting for us to return.

Lastly it's my money I'll spend it anyway I want thank you very much!

Yes, maybe true for you but there's elderly people that can't change tires and extra insurance is a mind set for people.

Perhaps you missed the rest of that post?

Some of us deal with things when they happen, others want to have insurance, either way is okay.

I'm well aware that some people, including myself at some point, can't or won't be able to change a tire.
I stated my opinion that if I can't, I'll call a tow truck and have it done.
Makes more sense to me to pay as I go, instead of paying up front and potentially loosing that money.
I stated that opinion in case anyone reading hadn't considered it, not in an effort to pick a fight.

This is not directed toward Pete, it is just a general statement;
Some elderly people, and even younger people have trouble making desicions, and can easily be led by slick marketing to relieve them of their hard earned money through fear of the unknown.
Some may not have considered that it is very likely to cost much less in the long run to pay as you go, instead of having an expensive insurance policy that may well cover dozens of potential scenarios, but isn't much of a bargain if you don't need to use it.
In addition, if you pay a couple hundred a year for 10 years and only ever need one $150.00 tow, it will turn out to be $2000.00 tow.
But again, as I stated, either way is okay, I'm just stating my opinion and offering an alternative view, not trying to force it on anyone..

That's why they sell insurance. It does
give peace of mind to know that help is only a phone call away. To some it is worth the expense. So far in the insurance ledger I got back more benefit than I paid.

I didn't take it Personally other than I didn't want my post to cause any upheaval.
in the past I had insurance on my airplane
my sail boats
my power boats
my motorcycles
my trucks
my house
my cars when the cars reached the point they were worth less than the cost to replace I just carried liability insurance.
my life when I was working and supporting my family now it's only me I don't have life insurance.

as far as having insurance yes you are betting the insurance companies you will have an accident, all the while they are betting
you are going to do everything possible not to have an accident
or betting them your house will burn down or something will happen to it
you only need insurance if the law requires it or you own something that would cost a lot to replace.

That's my final thoughts on this subject so Merry Christmas to you all.

Good morning Slow I hope you and angie have a Merry Christmas I wish you and all of your family a Merry Christmas.

Growing up poor Christmas time was always difficult for me and my family.
My dad worked in the coal minds of Kentucky low pay and hazard working condition
we 5 lived in a trailer no bigger than a cargo trailer, no inside plumbing and we carried water
I thought everyone drank water from a bucket using a long handled ladel.

I think most insurances cost more than you will ever get back from using them
like I said before insurances are only needed on objects houses, cars, trucks, trailers if their loss would
be a hardship on who ever owns them.
If you can replace your truck then don't have insurance on it I don't have the money to replace a $30,000 truck so I have insurance to cover it.

I went to the emergency room one night they kept me for 3 days when the bill came I owed $300 ER usage
now my insurance says that if you go to the ER and are admitted to the hospital the ER bill is covered.
thinking I was covered because I had just spent 3 days in the hospital but the hospital never admitted me!
I was there for observation only, hospital got their $300 from me and the insurance company didn't have to pay since observation isn't considered being admitted.

my original plan was since my GF's car has been giving her trouble and she doesn't know how to change a tire I thought I would
get her AAA they had a special that included her mother as well so now they both are covered and I have peace of mind.

it's cold snowy windy and I have to go 30 miles to install a new blu-ray player and hook up a new Wii U game player
just because I spent 45 years working on electronics people think I know how to do that kind of stuff.

have a good day

Your friend Pete

For my husbands piece of mind so he worries less (and my family) when I take off, I have AAA plus RV.
I used it when my mom and I had a flat in rush hour traffic on the drivers side. It took them ten minutes to get there and I felt safer than doing it myself.
Gives my family piece of mind and that is worth the money for us.

This is exactly why we have AAA RV membership...we like to take road trips with our tear and newer truck but stuff happens on country roads and it sure is comforting to have a number to call...and help is on the way!

We are also going to include insurance on our tear to cover theft or damage when it's NOT hitched to our truck...it is only about $100/yr with a $100 deductible and we'll have peace of mind. Maybe some don't need it but for us, it's worth it.

The front brakes on the van froze up tight Saturday about 8 miles from home.
just called AAA, they sent out a tow truck and towed it to the local Les Schwab to get her fixed.
Nice not having to worry about tow charges.
Need to drive the van more often. It had sat for 2 years before I bought it in November 2011.
I have AAA plus RV
