My only childhood memories of Coleman lanterns was using them at sheep camp. But they was fiddly things and on one seemed to be able to run them so I did not consider them for a very long time. Now I know they are not fiddly or hard to work. Just need to know a few things and you make light. Also never really went camping until I was in college. We was to busy farming to go camping. I only remember a few trips and we would sleep out under the stars. Not counting the back yard camping. That was when I was very young and I do not remember how we cooked. Might have been on the camp fire pit.

Nice looking F. Glad we are not in grade school. :D

I have several Fs some have 3 piece cap some have single piece cap. They are good burners and I like to do more custom paint jobs on them. Not to many people will complain.

Custom 228F

I have a 220F that will probably get a green hammered fount.

Nice find there. Not to many boxes where ever made for stoves. I can't remember the dates for a 413E but I would say in the late 50s to early 60s.

Today I got to work on a 220E I bought early summer 2011 and never fired. It had been burned very little and was in the box with most of the factory packing material though the box had suffered the ravages of setting in a shed but not to bad over all. The lantern was in very very nice condition. So i set about today to get it running. I had to pull the cage off as the valve wheel shaft would not turn and I had to apply some heat. It is now out on the porch finishing the burn in of a set of Peerless mantles.

Also today I got one of my 502 stoves running on kerosene. Only modification is to fill it with kerosene. Honest. Then put alcohol in the central depression of the burner and light it. It has been running on simmer for about 3-4 hours now and no problems. Nice blue flame. I think it is a keeper. I have heard this can also be done with 425s and maybe other stoves.

I have heard that bar called a towel bar. I have also heard it will hold the lid fairly level when opened clear up. I can't remember if I have tried it. I am pretty sure one of my 413s has it

That is a towel bar. The 413E was made (I believe) from 55-59. Probably a 55 model purchased new at the same time as the lantern. My 413F was made from 60-64 (also not dated). I think the towel bar went away when they switched to the flat lids. Save that stove just in case we have another contest next year.

Yesterday I got my 4 53 220E running and then while trying to clean the kerosene generator on a 200A I destroyed the coil inside it. Today I wrapped the picker rod with copper wire and the lantern is running nice and civilized.
