cabin fever!

Well Slow, with the holidays and the death of my younger brother, the last few weeks have been very busy. So I look forward to a few weeks of nothing to do. Generally January through March are awful here. I hate winter and there is very little to do. That is when my cabin fever will kick in. Beginning of April is the start of outdoor activities and things get fun again. Hopefully the NHL will settle the Hockey strike before the playoffs are supposed to start.

No cabin fever here. We are pretty good about staying active outside, no matter the weather. I do adjust my house building projects according to the weather / season. So right now I am working on plaster. I did continue to work in the woods, doing trail work, until we got too much snow. My last day out there was last Friday. For recreation we are still playing outside. We snowshoe, ski, and continue to bike.

This morning while the fog was out and the sun was coming up I was out taking pictures and getting a nice walk in.

cabin fever not here I was all settled in for a week or two of FOOTBALL then snow hit
my neighbor plowed my driveway then more snow and nephew plowed drive way, more snow once again neighbor plowed my drive
more snow I borrowed nephew's snow plow and truck and did my own drive plus my GF's.

those many days I thought were going to be cooped up didn't happen been going every day
I have burned through 3 tanks of gas at $75 a tank.
now that's not fun.

But I agree with the weather in the midwest for the next few months... it'll be awfull... and yes, cabin fever will kick in here in Michigan too!

I really dislike this time of year in the Midwest. The cold and snow are bad enough, but it's go to work in the dark, get home in the dark. Can't do much of anything outside five days a week.

So right now it's woodwork for the kids in the evenings. I have a pantry to build for one daughter and a wooden platform/base for a couch for another daughter. By the time I get those done, I'm sure the ladies will find something else that needs doing!

I am in Maine.. We kind of have cold.. snow .. and dark. My wife and I just got back from a snowshoe.. a little over an hour and a half. We have nice headlamps.. so darkness isn't a problem.. temps tonight.. were in the single numbers.. not super cold.. but not exactly toasty either. [Cold enough that my beard was all ice.]
Life is to short ... to have so much of it.. that one just endures.
We don't just make the best of winter.. we thrive in it.

I tried snowshoeing once and found it a bit tough to get used to, the gf is good at it though.
Cross country skiing is something we like to do when we get out around the lakes.
Last year we went to the cabin in the middle of winter, no power, water or anything fancy as it's off grid. It was fun but and D had this great idea that we could tough it out for a few months with next to nothing. She still won't tell me if she was joking or not

yeah.. a few months of no power and no water.. would take a bit of work.. and getting used to.

We seem to do more snowshoeing now than xc skiing now. We like both, but some of our friends that we recreate fairly regularly with, seem to like snowshoeing better, and since it does not matter to us.. I have ski trails out back.. but much of our trails.. are too tight.. and too hilly.. for skiing, but are a blast to snowshoe.

We have a few pair of snowshoes.. depending on conditions and what we are doing. I have a nice pair of lightweight running shoes now. [running snowshoes] I wear a pair of track running flats, with neoprene bike booties over them. It makes for a fast set up.

My condolences on the passing of your brother.

That is one of the good things about winter in Utah. It may be cold, but if it is not snowing, the sun is almost always out during the day. The bright light and warm glow of the sun makes it a bit easier to deal with the long and cold winter nights.

It doesn't hurt to be able to walk out the front door, face left and see the Wasatch Front across the valley.

Slow, you've got to post some pics of the new born calf. Remember, we love pics. My cabin fever has me down with a cold, my wife's twin sister died yesterday, and my nephew died of a heart attack two days earlier. Both deaths were sudden and unexpected. It is even more difficult now, since my sweet wife passed 3 1/2 years ago. We have to live life to it's fullest, and do all of the things we have dreamed of. The grim reaper has each one of our fateful days chiseled in stone, and I'm glad I don't know when it is.
