My new camping companion

Postby rainjer » Sat Jan 05, 2013 11:10 pm

Today we got a 4.5 year female old Border Collie named Lele. She is originally from a working ranch in Montana. Here original owner got her as a puppy and moved to Seattle 2 years ago. The owner has developed a medical condition that she has balance problems and can no longer walk and exercise her. She advertised her in a local paper and I contacted her last weekend. We emailed back and forth all week and arranged to meet her today. It was love at first site for both kids(13 year old son & 16 year old daughter). She loves to play frisbee and soccer and is super smart. After a 3+ hour visit we decided she need to come home with us and her original owner we very relieved to find her a new loving family. I cannot wait to to get her out camping this summer.

Is this Forum going to the dogs?
More pictures of dogs posted in the last couple of days than of teardrop projects???????

she is beautiful! congrats.
personally, i think posting pics of dogs that go camping is just as much a part of camping as anything else that is posted and chatted about.

Great dog, and great new owners for adopting it.

Camping isn't camping without Sunny Day along. She is an icebreaker, and she's a good judge of people, too.

Nice looking dog, but what is it doing in that kid crate?

Slow - We knew about the amount of physical and mental exercise need before we decided this was a breed we wanted to have. She will get (2) 45-60 minute walks daily and 30-45 minutes of frisbee daily. We also plan on doing about 30 minutes of obedience training daily. Since hes is 4 1/5 she has already had obedience training so it will just be refresher training and maybe ad some advance training.

Also my daughter does Search and Rescue and is going to see if she can be evaluated for Search and Rescue training. If she is accepted she would also be getting daily SAR training.

keep in mind as being from a working dog line. laying around in town dowing nothing is going to be that dogs problem.

she will defintly need to be kept busy!!!!!!!!!

border collies will hold the cats up and the chickens and everything all day long when they are not moving sheep or cows.

they get highly bored when they are not out being worked!

She was crate trained by here previous owner. That is where she likes to sleep. She normally just left it open for her. We are going to close it at night for a while until she get adjusted to her new surrounding and learns her boundaries. We are also going to use it for a while if she is in the house when we are at work. From what we have observed in the little time we have had her we will not need to use it very long. She is settling in real fast.
