6 foot pontoon boat for fishing

Postby LDK » Sun Jan 13, 2013 10:29 am

I've been thinking about getting one of these to take camping with me. It would be a step up from float tubes and it has an excellent review.

Head over to the "foamies" section you could make one a lot cheaper than buying.
over there they have made a couple of boats already.
but then again buying is faster.

Hey Slow

This particular one just caught my eye because it isn't the inflatable kind. You don't have to worry about it being punctured and leaking. It's very small (6'x4') and can be took down easy enough for storage. It's small, light, and can be easily transported. I just wonder how well it handles on water.

Look at fold up kayaks as well. They are very rigid and take up very little space.

I didn't think it was a "blow" up type but slow has a good idea a "blow" up would take up less space.

This would be perfect for chasing the Barramundi up north in the billabongs and rivers. It has only one small problem, it puts you far too close to the thousands of crocodiles up there and also, down here.

Just a thought, here, and I may be (excuse the expression/pun) "all wet".

Have you thought about a modular kayak? It pulls apart so you could dry it off and store it on top of your bed for transport. Also, there'd be a seat for a fellow passenger or the fish bucket or lunch basket. Please see an example here:

Sharon

That's a pretty neat kayak but did you see the price? That $365 was for the stern section only. If you get all 3 sections you're looking at almost $1200 dollars. :frightened:

Yes, but, the initial cost for the two sections that make up the one-seater kayak is only about $170 more than your one-seater pontoon boat but you get the two added features of easier transport and eventual two-seater adaptation, if you ever need or want it, as the second seat is an add-on purchase option. Granted, the optional $500 add-in section is a tad on the expensive side; but, right now, you're only looking at a one-seater anyway. ...Just a thought worth chewing on, maybe.

PS. Thanks for letting me pass the idea by you. :)

I built a 14' pirogue from http://www.unclejohns.com and it's fantastic. Total weight is 22lbs and built it for $250.00

Look at the front of Sumo’s Toy Hauler

I wonder if he made that one. The floats looks like foam.

Were it me I would go with an inflatable. When you consider they use inflatables in class 6 (highest difficulty) rapids, punctures are not a big concern. We have four canoes and I am willing to bet we may actually pick up a bit of MPG with one on the TV.
