Central Florida teardrop build

Postby fishfreek » Tue Jan 08, 2013 5:14 pm

So I got my trailer from HF on sale and with 25% off on New Years day. I got the 1780 lb rated one I figured for $282.00 with tax what a deal.

Here is it assembled..

I found a pretty 23/32" 10 ply sanded pine plywood with poplar core and exterior / high humidity glue for $33.00 a sheet and 5 of those sheets followed me home today.

Here is the plywood with holes contersunk for allow for the trailer bolts..

Then after getting those drilled I wanted to see what the plans for the Generic Ben Roy looked like drawn out so I measured everything out and drew all my lines on what will end up being the underside of the camper floor. I like the results and since I was going to coat this side to protect it nobody will see my mistakes.

Not sure you can see all the lines but they are there. Somethings about the different radiuses make more sense now.

Then I got 2 coats of just regular house paint on it and now it is sitting over night waiting for me to pickup a roll of butyl tape to put down on the top inside edge of the trailer to stop moisture intrusion after the build is complete.

More to come soon. I have ordered my door and galley hinges and I am working on the layout of the galley.

Well you ready for the fourth step. Great

1St. Convince the wife you really going to build this.
2d. Clearing a space in the garage to build it.
3d. Getting the trailer.
4th. Making sawdust.

Keep us posted.

I haven't had to ask a wife for permission for many years so that was the easiest step to pass. Now to get on with the rest and get this thing built.

I love following these builds hopefully mine will be resurected soon.

Passed stage 1 easily, she decided she wasnt going to camp any more but still wanted to go to shows with the TV
Passed stage 3 bought an old knackered caravn for £100 approx $150 and stripped and shortened the chassis
Struggling with stage 2 at the moment.

Good luck with your build keep it going.

After a really busy week at work I finally had a chance this afternoon to make a little more progress on my build

Got the second wall cut and the door trimmed to fit and all the holes cut for windows.

The sawdust goes in the vacuum cleaner just about as quick as it gets made. Sorry... the carpet makes it much nicer than plain concrete when I have to crawl around on the floor.

Here's a couple more pics. This thing is actually starting to look like something

From the front. I got the ceiling boards painted and most of them installed. Just need to trim the last one down a bit to fit.

Found these at Lowes on clearance. Pre primed and 8' long, 14sf for $2.92 I love deals.

From the back looking in. Test fitting the cooler and a couple other things before putting in the counter top.

Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics. That's all I got.

Had a little more time the last couple days.

Added insulation

Went after work Tuesday and picked up a sheet of what HD calls 5mm underlayment. Not real sure what woods it is made of but it went on NICE... Three straps, my pneumatic stapler and about an hour of time and I have a top.

Today I will seal the top and start my rear hatch. This has been one of the coolest builds I have done. Can't wait to start using it.

Thanks txcamper, I am not a little guy and wanted a bit more head room getting in and out. Now that it is cut I really like the look.

Had another good day. Got the hatch frame built and installed. Got the glue in place for the skin and the skin on. Just letting the glue dry then on to the next step.....

For now the next step is to clean up the garage and do some shopping for electrical supplies.
