6 hours on phone and NO hitch

Postby Mary C » Tue Jan 22, 2013 6:23 pm

I started on the phone and computer at ten oclock this morning and I am no closer to a hitch than a month ago. :? I have probably called every manufacturer , and every possible fabricator around and no one can make or put together a hitch for my car. as one said my car is like a car from mars. I could design two bars which would go probably five feet up under my car to the front to a significant point that would be connected to a flat bar on the underside of the rear bumper. they said it would make it too low. I see much lower cars almost dragging the ground all the time. I guess they don't want to do it, my money isn't good , and they don't need any business. I am going to this little trailer company a little way 45 miles from me tomorrow I hope if I go in person they will help me. If I do haul the trailer it will have to be light weight. I did find one for all wheel drive by Curt but mine is front wheel drive and it wont fit. Question.....Does anyone in Ga, AL, north FL, SC or west NC or TN know of anyone who can make a hitch for a 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse FRONT wheel drive. I will be trying tomorrow to get the local metal fabrication shop and the trailer making place to do it but if all else fails........... Thanks for listening I feel better now!!! :)

Mary: Call your local U-haul dealer and ask for part# 24565. It has been discontinued, but there might be a dealer in your area that has or can get it for you. I entered your make and model on their website and that is the number I came up with. Please give them all of the info they ask you for your model and I bet they can get you the right one to fit your car. The price shows at $149.95 plus tax and installation would be extra. Be sure they look it up for you so they get you the correct hitch. The number I gave you might not be the exact one used on your model.

I hope this info will help you get a hitch for your car. :worship:

Marry: They have the one I told you about here in Reno, NV. (# 24565)

Their link is below.

http://www.uhaul.com/Locations/Truck-Re ... 502/706055

Call your local dealer or another one in your area if the one you called first won't help you find one. They can do a search for you to find one close to you to save you on shipping. The one here in Reno would cost a lot to ship it back east.

I may have to have it shipped but i will bet it will be less than having one made for it. Going to Douglasville in the morning to take care of some business and check at the fabric store for some canvas prices I will stop by the U-haul while I am there. I am gonna sleep better tonight!!!! :D

Mary, if you completely run out of options on a manufactured one, I could make you one. I'm afraid it would be a bit pricey though because we'd basically use one off another car and modifying it to work. If you do go the route of paying someone to fab it, make sure they are reputable, because you don't want that breaking off and your trailer passing you!!

Drawtite works closely with U haul and Drawtite has the capability to build a custom hitch for any production car made. I personally ordered one for a 38 Desoto and a 48 Hudson Hornet while I was manager at U haul. If drawtite has never built it they will literally borrow a car of the same year and model and custom build it for you. The cost is very reasonable general 25 to 40 more that a similar stock hitch. So don't let them tell ya it not available.

I custom ordered hitches from Drawtite thru my U haul company store for my Suzuki Esteem and the Scion XB and neither are rated to tow.

1-800-gouhaul and ask for hitch central

You could also try Pat Rogers Trailers and Hitches in Marietta, they've been at this game for a long time.

I finally got to someone with u-haul that really works in Hitch central. after a couple of calls I finally got the most wonderful man who took time to help locate like one of three hitches and finally got the one in new york to ship the right one to the u- haul store in Douglasville. I have to call the store in the morning talk to the Manager to let him know this is for me and to make arrangements for them to call me when it comes in. Thank you to Kristian for helping me to get this I am so blessed to have his help and no shipping. I will not get too excited till I hear it is here and it fits the car and installed. Then everyone will hear me. Thanks everyone here for you support and suggestions. :D

If this hitch doesn't work I May have to try pat rogers its just they gave me a very high price to make one. the problem is all the manufactures do not have any made for this car I was lucky that U-haul buys them in lots and a few 3 were on the shelves in the back rooms.
:)
Thanks

I found one from autoanything.com, part number 111913, made by Curt. Unfortunately it is a class 1, which I would expect based on the tow vehicle.
