I think if you search side tents in here you will find ideas and pics.

This was my idea that I was going to attempt to incorporate once I finish the trailer side of my build. Some fiberglass tent poles in a half moon hoop. Going to plan on having a flap door to come down to protect us from the bugs where we camp. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I don't have a picture of a door awning, but I am set up to have an awning on my galley hatch. I used some awning rail as my trim piece on the lower hatch. It also holds/covers the garage door weather stripping. As long as it's not too windy, it should work OK.

The following are from the Dometic cabana that I installed on my 6x10 CT. It was actually designed for an RPod TD. You could probably adapt something similar.

I did a brief write-up on my build log http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=51193&start=30#p967735. I would imagine that it would be pretty easy to do something similar.

Sorry to say I have nothing to add but I am interested in side awnings as well. Also, what would be a good method for attaching the awning to the side of the trailer?

There is a sailmaking supplier called Bainbridge International and on pg. 205 of their catalog is some plastic stuff called (appropriately enough) awning track. I have a friend with an account and he is ordering me some. The awning needs a perimiter rope to slide in the groove. I am thinking of a strip down the center of my roof and setting the awning on whichever side makes sense. Alternatly I may try a rope down the center so I can have a wing off each side.

Sorry, you'll have to copy and paste. Remember page 205

Don't forget Elizabeth's Crows Wing awning. She tells exactly how she did that one:

We have a cheap 6 man tent we bought from tesco that weve used 3 times until Mrs decided she didnt like camping and then we got into teardrops. Going to cut one end off it and attach that to the side.

Someone else has done the same thing with the same tent I think its on the other forum im on the teardrop club of Great Britain Ill have a look and see if I can find it.

Found it!! :applause:

I've used these twist studs mounted on both sides of the tear for the awning. This way the awning mounts to either side of the trailer without a long track attached to the trailer body. Just an idea.

As a side note, if you put some pockets at each corner of the awning and a velcro tie in the center, you can modify some shock corded tent poles to support the top of the awning. It gives more head room, won't allow water to collect on it and will support itself without guy ropes to trip over, unless it's windy...then needs at least a weight to hold the awning on the poles. I had Marti make this one up and it's always been a great awning! Doug

Doug has all the good ideas! This would work well without installing too much extra hardware on the outside. :D

I don't think that's the case, but thank you...I just get lucky once in a while. I wanted something that was more typical of a vintage type attachment. I've done the poles on awnings up to 7x7 so don't know just how large you can go with the tent pole thing. The larger you go, the more strength you are going to need at the pockets as the poles are going to need more bow to support the weight. Doug
