WE manufacture portable kitchens in the UK, mainly aimed at Campers and flood victims. We needed a way of displaying our kitchen in a typical setting, but some of the shows we want to attend dont allow vehicles on site or in the show hall, but trailers are allowed so I had the idea of building this.
Due to the new UK trailer laws its easier if I call it a caravan, so as I have always wanted to build a tear drop thats what I will do.

The cost of living in the UK has shot up in the last two years so I feel you will get more tear drops made from cars as if you have the skills its far cheaper
I have only seen one other in the flesh but I also know some one building one
They both used a strange little 3 wheeled car called a Reliant robin
Like this but with no engine and front seats, its fiberglass bodied so very light

Very cool Kitchen.

Yes I have seen some made from Reliants and from 2CV's also.

It is worth a look.

To rescue you from a charge of tooting your own horn, and to allow others to see the product, here's the link!

What is their weight, and about how much would it cost to ship to the US?

Thanks for that
Total weight as supplied: 22kg (48.5 lbs)
If you PM me your full address I will find a cost, we have never sold outside the UK before so you need to consider any import duties or taxes you have to pay. Also are these stoves available in the US? It may work out cheaper to buy it with no stove or cool box as you shold be able to buy these locally so its pointless to ship it with one.
I could do you a good price on one as our first international customer!

Just a sheet of Ply, possibly covered in Plastic or sheet metal.Did some more welding last week so its now nice and strong
I need to replace a bearing in the trailing arem once it stops raining.
Then the insides and lights next.
Still struggling with the bed design in my other post

Just a small update
The welding is now complete, I have wired it all up so the orginal vehicle lights now work.
I am struggling with how to gain a longer bed, I need some sort of small pull out or cat flap ( I dont know how that translates?) so my feet can stick out.
I think I need another 14" or so, I was thinking of a drop down flap with some tent fabric on it to keep the rain out, so can any one give me some ideas, a picture would be good?
I cant have a longer trailer as it wont fit in the garage.
Next weeks jobs
Test all lights again
Fit new hitch and break away chain.
Remove the brakes ( not needed as its under 750Kg
Fit a small basic kitchen
Design and make the bed.

Hi Winchman,

Here's a possible approach:

Since you're in the relatively rainy UK, why not use a flip-up
panel and do a take on a slide-out drawer - a slide out 4-sided box
section consisting of a bottom and the 3 upright sides, with it being
open at the inward facing side and on the top, the latter which is then
covered by the corresponding sized flip-up panel in the front, thus
providing a solid wall enclosed extension. I would take that over tent
fabric any day. It shouldn't be hard to fabricate at all - get a
couple correct length drawer slides [12-16inch long], AL angle for edge
connections. sheet material - thin plywood, coroplast, honeycomb panel etc.,
- [Just use the same material and method you build your kitchen boxes out of,
perhaps.] - , some foam/rubber weather stripping, caulk, if needed etc. You could
either use pop-rivets or small nuts and bolts to hold the pieces all together.
And some kind of hinge for the flip-up panel and an internal way to
secure the opened panel to the slide-out section and a way to secure
it when closed for travel. Pitch the two end sides of the slide-out box so
that the flip-up panel will then form a pitched roof over the slide-out
box when it is all opened. [Remember the rain.]

Here's a fast Paint Drawing [Click on it to enlarge.]:

Have fun finding your solution.

Cheers,
