Hello from Elvis country...

Postby 55chevy » Thu Jan 31, 2013 5:24 pm

Hello to all,
I'm a newbie in West Tennessee near Memphis and yes, Elvis is still alive and doing well. I've been lurking around here a few weeks and doing some research. My neighbor (Bob) and I are both retired and we plan on building our first teardrop together real soon. Our reasons for building are: we are both retired, our wives want us out of the house, and most of all, a teardrop build looks fun and challenging. We plan on building a Benroy or modified Benroy style 5x10. And, if it all goes well and it's as much fun as we think it will be, I'll help Bob build his. :)

My brain is already full :? so I'm not absorbing all of great information I've found on the forum. I'm ready to get out of the design phase and get the tools out! :FNP

Thanks to all who posted their trailer builds, misc info, and images. You sure help us newbies out. This site is great! :applause:

I just had to change my avatar after mentioning Elvis. My wife got the new little Elvis potato head for her birthday yesterday and I just had to post it. I'll use it until I can get a trailer built to take a picture of. :)

Welcome to the forum. You guys will have a great time. My suggestion would be build your friends Teardrop first. Ya know, you always do things better the second time.
Don't tell Bob I said that!

Mary, Thanks for the welcome and I'll post some pictures once we get the tools out...hopefully real soon.

Woodbutcher, I won't tell Bob what you said if you don't tell him what I said.. :shake hands: I use to think that the second of anything would turn out better until I started working part time helping my son on his construction projects. When we were rookies, we would start on a back wall or whatever and take our time and get it perfect and by the time we got to what really shows, our work wouldn't turn out so good. I guess time will tell with the trailers. There is so much to learn building the trailer, you are probably right this time. Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome Steve
I too am just at that retirement stage and have just finish my year and a half long build of a somewhat non traditional teardrop.
It was a great experience and I have fallen in love with the forum and the Good People that are on here to provide encouragement along the way.
Now it is time to get out and meet them in person and enjoy the teardrop experience.
Hope you and Bob enjoy your build as much as I did and enjoy the occassional beverage along the way, as you sit back and ponder what to do next??

Brian,
Thanks for the welcome and I know we'll have a few beverages and a good time. I looked at you pictures and that's a really cool trailer you built. I also like the truck which I believe is a Studebaker but I couldn't quite read the tailgate in the picture. It looks a whole lot like my '47 IH truck. Mine is not road ready but I plan on getting it going soon.

Thanks again,
Steve

Hey welcome to the forum

Hey I hope you and Bob are really close. Not much room in there. Hate to see Bob roll over in the middle of
the night, give you a good hug and call you sweetie. GL on what you decide.

Ps. I seen Elvis in New Zealand getting on a military plane heading to Mcmurdo sound research station. He
entertains the scientist every year. I took some pictures for proof but on the return trip “THEY” stoled my
camera at the hotel I was staying at just to keep the secret.

I was afraid the me and Bob thing was going to raise some eyebrows.. we really plan on building 2 but just one at a time.

Sorry about the camera. Let me know the value of it and I'll get lil E to send you a check and some pictures the next time he stops by. :pictures:
