Slow,

We still haven't finished our trailer yet, but we always take our fishing gear when we camp. We'll probably just toss the poles in the back of the truck to start with. That roof rack idea looks interesting though.

Slow, I haven't fished while camping with the teardrop yet. I know I will have the sit-on-top kayak strapped on top of the Escape, and I'll have to figure out how to carry the fishing poles. I have a 4" (maybe it's a 6"....it's behind some lumber in the garage) white PVC tube, with end caps, in the garage that I should be able to cut to size and clamp it to the bottom of the front platform on the 4-wide. I'm still working on organization inside the cabin and haven't thought enough about the fishing poles yet. Hummm....something else to figure out.....I'll get around to it before it gets warm enough to fish.

I want to make a rod carrier and mount it to the inside ceiling of the van.
I fish from the lake bank. If I can, I'll set up my gravity chair and take a nap.

I have a small portable boat (http://www.porta-bote.com/index.php) that I bought to get in and out during floods, but then promised my kids I wouldn't use it as they are convinced I would drown. :( So I may decide to get a fishing pole and take the boat and pole along while camping. I grew up on the river and used to fish a lot, but haven't fished at all once I moved back into the family homestead 11 years ago. We shall see!

Randy, I know I would have to glue one end cap on the tube. The other end would need a small chain as a keeper to make sure it didn't get lost. I'll have to think more about that one, because it would have to be very tight so I wouldn't lose my poles.

As soon as I get my teardrop built I will be building some type of small fishing vessel I have some ideas and just changed the profile of my teardrop to accommodate carrying the boat on top. You know we have to do what we gotta do. I just wish they United States would get together and offer a federal fishing license so we could fish in all 48 without having to pay through the nose to fish in other states. Perhaps we old people could get AARP to do something useful for us!!! I just love to catch, I don't eat them unless I catch in the morning!! Love the Idea for the rod keeper!

I think pvc would be too small for 5-6 poles even if I went up to a 6" pipe so I might make a small trap door under, or inside, my frame.
Slow, I'm glad you brought this up cause I was brainstorming about this and then forgot all about it.

Could you mount a pvc pipe somewhere on the inside ceiling of your TD? Maybe arrange it so that one side swings down or out to load and unload your rods. Do you use "rod socks" to protect your rods from each other?

I fly fish, and many of my rods are multiple piece, so they break down to more manageable sizes with their own cases that are easier to store.

Slow,,,,I try to camp anywhere near a river, stream or lake as possible, just so I can fish. Mostly flyfishing, but sometimes spin casting with spinners or worms,,,whatever it takes. My flyrod is in a case so it is safe in the back of the truck, spinning rods go in the trailer along with the guitar. Thing is,,,I neither fish very well or play the guitar very well....but hell, only one I have to entertain is myself.....I've fallin down in a river on slick rocks so much...I now just sit there when it's hot, and keep on fishin....
Roll on springtime....
If you see my harley on a trailer,,,,call the police cause it's being stolen...

I actually take the reel off the rod and store it in the tackle box. The rod fits in a 2" PVC pipe with a couple of short foam pieces wrapped around it to keep it from rattling around inside. One end of the PVC has a glued on cap, the other is threaded.

I'm still learning that fly-fishing technique myself. I keep getting in too big of a hurry and pop the fly into oblivion.

I used to fish when I was kid, but 50 years of doing other thing kept me too busy.
Maybe now that I am planning retirement I can take it up again when we go camping in our new teardrop.

For me hunting or fishing is usually the reason/excuse to go camping. Up until now I haven't taken a boat with but once I get my new camper ready I plan to put a hitch on the back of the camper and tow a boat behind it.
