Can you hinge a fold down door for the extention? Then sew a tent for cover. Some of the new trailers are using them. Similar to a pop up only the door would fold down. You could also do it in reverse with the extra foot area on a pull out and the door opens upward with the tent attached.

 I'd make an enclosed pull-out drawer slightly larger than you need for the feet. In other words, a drawer-like box that is enclosed on 5 of the 6 sides; the front of the drawer, on the outside, should over-lap at all the exterior wall edges of the opening, so you can use sufficient weather stripping to keep water out. Of course, the back of the drawer would be open, so you could put your feet in. However, if possible, I would have the "foot box" on the back of the trailer instead of the front because there would be less air and water pressure trying to push its way in around the seals.

Why not build it a permanent box similar to a tongue box so you don't have to set it up each time? Probably wouldn't be any heavier than a small slide out that requires set up each time and easier to weather seal.

That's a good idea. Somebody did that not too long ago; but, I can't remember who or where the thread is.... It all depends on what works best for your build.

I am limited to the maximum length of the trailer, I have thought about the draw idea too, just could do with seeing a few pictures, I have afew other jobs to do first so still got some thinking time

Here is a idea for a small 60 inch long TD. I just designed it to be 4 foot wide. It is about 35 inches tall
just to keep the TD shape.

It has a draw slide out in the back rather than the front. The draw works like Sharon suggested above.
If your door is at the tallest part of the TD ( the front ) you will have to slide your head to the back
and stick your feet out a pop out on the tongue. I think this is a better idea to get in and out to have
the slide out in the back.

Waiting for "someday" will leave you on your deathbed wondering why you didn't just rearrange your priorities and enjoy the time you had, instead of waiting for a "better" time to come along...
