Opinions on Champion inverter generators?

Postby Jason1955 » Wed Feb 06, 2013 12:16 pm

Whats everyone's opinion on the champion inverter 2000 watt generators? I see them all the time on ebay for good deals but wanted to know if they were any good? I already have the champion 4000w standard generator to run my race trailer living quarters now but was looking for something to run just at night to keep the noise down for my pit neighbors. All I'm looking for it to run at night is just either a 1500watt electric space heater in the cold months or a 10,000 btu portable a/c in the summer.

This is the generator in question:

I don't know about that one but what I really like about the honda 2000 is the extended run gas tank that holds 5 gallons of gas, fill it and forget about it.
also to refill it you don't have to turn it off just add gas to the tank, which is great in the summer when I run the AC 24-7 that's what sold me on the honda and they are quiet.
but that looks like a good generator? good brand?

I would buy a Honda over any of them. You would want quiet operation and Honda has that and you might spend more up front but you will have one that last for many many years to come.

looks like both are rated at 53db.....i'll bet the champion is a lot cheaper to purchase......I was able to purchase my honda at northern tools during there remodeling sale and got 10% off of the $999.00 price.....hondas are good machines, but way overpriced compaired to other brands......

Ya I would still stick with the Honda and Honda will be much easier to deal with for warranty work if ever needed then the other off brands. You pay more but last will be alot longer and hold up so much nicer. It is like this, you can buy a Porsche or you can buy a Geo Metro which one do you think will hold up longer.

I think the real problem is that if anything breaks on any of the "other" brands you can't fix them, there are no parts available and no dealers to go to. With Honda and Yamaha there are parts available and dealers( and repair places) that will look at them. With the bad Ethanol gas we have to deal with today a carb rebuild kit has to be obtainable and I know they are available for Honda/Yam. Except for maybe Kipor these are throw away units, My Honda EU 1000 is 6 years old and might sit for a year or used every day for a month but always starts.

There is a 262 page thread on RVnet http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fusea ... ge/212.cfm

One of my concerns with any Chinese made generator is, are parts available. In many cases the answer is a resounding no. Champion seems to have decent customer support. One of the comments is that Champion seems to be a reverse engineered copy of Honda.
