Another silly question

Postby Gage » Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:39 pm

Why does a trailer (Teardrop or Standy) have to have a Theme.

The don't but it is sure fun to come up with all the neat ideas. It's like having a cake and the theme is the frosting.

You're right, Gage. A trailer doesn't have to have a theme. However, some people find that to be part of the fun of building a trailer and even part of the camping fun. It certainly makes trailer tours more fun. :D

Ours does, a Compass Rose, and there were a number of reasons, personalization, symbolic (association with maps), theft deterrence (unique). With only seven Mega Mini's in the world it is quite unique anyway but that G in the middle of the avatar is easy to spot.
It is in reality the symbolic that started the whole thing, and seeing what others have done and the inventive ways it has been expressed is just plain fun. I would be willing to bet that it is in reality a small percentage that actually have a theme, I am willing to bet no more than 10%, but you remember them.

By saying Why does a trailer (Teardrop or Standy) have to have a Theme you are implying they have to have a theme.

who requires you to have a theme? a theme isn't required; I would think you would know this already.

BUT if you want to have a theme for your trailer no one is going to stop you.

Miss Piggy has a theme ! And that made it fun to build!
While I was welding, wiring and painting, Sandi was searching fabrics and sewing "Pig" curtains , bedding, etc.
Then on to the gallley with Pig cutting board
We have Pig glasses and dishes, but probably will not bring them as our camping dishes are much lighter. :R

Our teardrop has a bicycle theme because that was one of the main reasons we wanted to build it, to serve as a support vehicle for us to travel a little further afield to ride the local Rail Trails. It's not a big deal though and we aren't overboard with it. But it's fun, makes it a little more personal and when someone sees it they immediately know a little something about us. It's a good conversation starter, especially with others who have an interest in riding.

Gage, I don't understand the reason for the question. Are you just stirring the pot? Many people find pleasure in following a theme or pattern. They enjoy following a certain plan to the end. What's it to you if someone names their car? Practically everyone names their boat. Does that bother you?

It took a theme for Da Vinci to go from naked canvas to the Mona Lisa. Without a theme how is a song written?

Your orginal Scottsman build page had a Mission Impossible theme that made it fun for all to watch the progress. It helped us to get to know you and enjoy your project, your sense of humor, and what makes you you. Why did you choose that music? It was, after all, a theme.

By choosing a theme, It brings a project from a hodge-podge of possibles and help us focus to a desired end. There is only so much room in a teardrop. Focus is very important. Detail makes the difference between ho-hum and "Wow! that's a really fun trailer." Each of Doug Hodders trailers are themed and it is that attention to detail that makes his work so fabulous. Without a theme why would he need to build more than one? They would all be the same.

Why does a trailer have to have a them? It doesn't. But having a theme does make one stand out in a crowd. It allows expression. It shows passion. It's what life is about.

I believe the topic is "Another silly question" and that is something the ones of us who actually would like to have a forum that is based on building and using teardrop and related campers should all be asking -- why? This is not the first time a post count war and private non related post have dominated the boards but is certainly one of the worst periods I have seen on the forum. Still the best way to get teardrop / camping information and questions asked if one can put up with the all the current nonsense.

Mine will have a theme, that's how my wife got interested in the build. I told her "I'll build it, you decorate it". :worship: Oh please don't choose something really silly.

Gage, 10 years ago you even came by my place during my build, and told me that my TD should have wooden tail lights, so you let me borrow a real Ford sample for me to copy. Oh yeah, and if I remember correctly, you got after me because I didn't have a wooden 2 slice pop-up toaster and a wooden percolator coffee pot. From there, it had to be a wooden flip-down Sony Plazma TV, connected to a wooden satelite dish on the roof, ala Gage. Hmmm, seems I have a theme, whether I want one or not. I guess the wooden spoke wheels, wooden tongue, hitch and carved safety chain, wood clearance lights and license frame and fenders, helped round out the theme, that seems to fit me best. Thanks for the help and good advice. I've a feeling there is even more wood planned in the future.
8) :? ;) Roly ~~

Some of here in the North have cabin fever and are enjoying the Forum as a method to meet other Teardrop enthusiasts who we hope to meet when the camping season resumes.
Yes, that means that some of our posts are made just to keep some topics moving up on the list or as a communication method other than texting for us non cell phone owners??
