Southern Appalachian Tearjerker's *SPRING FLING 2006*

Camping in the Southeast, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Missippi & Alabama, also Southern Appalachian, Georgia, Florida, and Magnolia (Mississippi) Chapters of Tearjerkers

Postby Ross Wade » Fri Mar 24, 2006 11:01 am

Hey Chip, Carla and I were thinking about keeping it as simple as possible this year for our "ANNUAL SPRING ROOT FESTIVAL". We are also planning on changing the names , next year, of our 2 Southern Appalachian Tearjerker gatherings from: Spring Fling....to:Spring Root Festival 2007 and Fall Crawl....to Fall Root Festival 2007 ...........what do ya think?

Anywho, back to the Saturday night dinner, we were thinking on the lines of hamburgers and hotdogs and all the sides that go with. We have a good size grill that we can take. What do ya think 'bout this for the grub?

I like that. A big fire pit where cookin' can be done. "No pot luck" sounds good too. If something smells good to you, heck just ask for a tasting. 8) What do you all think on that?????

I think we have a winner. We can have a big communal cooking area where everyone cooks their own grub. :applause: This is about as simple as it gets  Are there any other concerns or suggestions about this way of handling the Saturday night dinner?
We have a cast iron charcoal grill that has a 15" x 29" cooking surface and a 15" diameter gas grill/smoker. We also have a few cooking grates/grills that you put over a campfire.

Just another idea on the cooking idea........I have some extra steel grating material that I can cut into 2' by 6' pieces and we can support them on cinder blocks and create 2 large charcoal grills. Whatcha think    We could use these instead of bringing a mess of grills and everyone can be cooking (if they so choose) at the same time....thus everyone will be eating at the same time

This sounds like a fun gathering. Are T@Bs welcome to join in as well? Ours is the clamshell, so at least we have the outdoor/hatch kitchen in common! May is booked pretty solid for us, but maybe we can squeeze this in (now, I just have to convince the husband!!) Would be fun to meet you folks! I am more a lurker than a poster, but I get lots of smiles from this forum!!

I just checked MapQuest - ouch - 5 1/2 hour drive. I may have a LOT of convincing to get the husband to go!! We are from a northern suburb of Atlanta. And we are camping in E TN (Little River Village) the first weekend in May and camping in W NC (Four Paws Kingdom) Memorial weekend. So I'll have to see if he's up for yet another long drive!! And if we can sneak out of work a little early to get on the road. So far we have only camped in the GA state parks not too far from home, and it would be nice to get out a little farther, and meet you fine folks!

Hey Cheryl and Randall

You two are more then welcome at our gathering. Like Chip said, we don't care what you call home for the weekend and be ready to answer a lot of questions and give tours of your T@B. There is plenty of room for you if you decide to join us. Let me know as soon as you can. I will give the campground a total site count, as well as the names of everyone attending by May 10th.

What part of North Georgia do you call home? A few of us were camping at Unicoi State Park in Helen, back in September. Carla and I camped at Georgia Mountain Campground in Hiawassee last year.

Hope you can join us,
Ross

Hi Ross -

We live between Cumming and Gainesville, within walking distance of Lake Lanier. My husband was born and raised in Dahlonega, and lived for a short time in Suches, so we hang out a lot in the N GA mountain area with his friends and family. We haven't camped at Unicoi yet (only hiked on the trails there), but it is definitely in our plans! Helen is only about 45 minutes from our house. We just bought our T@B last September, so we are just getting started!

I'll let you know if I can talk the husband into this get-together. And let us know if you come back camping in GA! We just might join you!
