And so it begins!!

Postby stanimal » Sat Feb 09, 2013 5:30 pm

Well, I finally bit the bullet (literally) and ordered a trailer to begin working on my build. I went to a gun show today, and with the firearms market the way it is now I just couldn't pass up a chance to sell a gun I don't shoot anymore. After more than doubling what I paid for the gun, I drove over to Northern Tool and ordered this bad boy:

It will be here in 7 to 12 business days. As a bonus, because I ordered it in person, and it was still listed in their catalog at $449, that's the price I got it at. I'll have to go to the store to pick it up, but that's not a big deal.

So, the waiting and the planning begins! Kinda excited!

So this leads me to wonder why more prospective Teardrop builders are not buying cheap or almost free tent railers for their chassis?? :?

My second one is on a pop up frame that came free off Craigslist. I cut off the extras with a recip saw, put on bigger wheels, and it was good to go.

Have fun Stanimal. It's not a ploughshare, but it seems to be going in the right direction ;)

Well, I went with a new trailer for a few reasons.

1) my first build, and there are more resources out there that I've been able to find for building on this type of trailer than a repurposed tent camper.

2) Living in a residential neighborhood, getting rid of the waste parts of the old trailer is a problem. the cities garbage collectors frown on sheets of camper siding in the trash bins.

3) I don't know about your area of the country, but here in South Texas, folks hold on to those things. Even a junked up one on craigslist was asking almost $1,500.

Thanks for the criticism right off the bat though. It was super awesome.

you obviously live where these tent trailers are almost free. let me know when you get one. you can bring it to me. there is nothing almost free around my area.

Lance... I can answer that. With the price of scrap being so high these days, people are scraping these old trailers rather than giving them away. I've looked for a year along the coast of the Carolina's for a donor tent trailer but there's not much to be had in these parts. I plan on building mine from scratch... a little more but I wont have to modify to accomodate my TD.
