Congrats! It looks great and very spacious. I ended up hiring someone to build mine for me because I wanted to be able to use it this year but hope to build one myself someday. Those of you who have definitely inspired me!

I'm planning on a trip along the west coast S to N Cali bound for big sur & the studio of the great Beatrice Wood. (ojai valley ***so excited for a long trip) Recommend a few great 'must be' places that you've taken the desert dawg & favor? No electricty required.

I give great credit to the individual who started this teardrop project. The Benroy style was exactly what I was wanting to build & 'BAM' there she was just waiting to be finsihed out. I'm proud to say she smells like a 'camp fire' as I type from a trek to OSAGE HILLS STATE PARK w/ my 70yr old mother. Mom was a hoot!

Great start'r project. I have enjoy'd driving down the HWY w/ her tuck'd closely behind me as we geocache & camp away life. I'm still not completed & have a feeling I never will be. I have started to finish the little stuff - one more door trim package, air condition trim'd out, complete AC/DC package, pocket door in galley to interior. I'm about two yrs into this project but we've been camp'n from day one!!!

Haven't named her yet. I'm sure the name will find us.

Hi ladies! I love my Scotty HiLander camper but I miss my teardrop and have an itch to get another one so bad!! Hubby told me don't even DARE scratch that itch!

I'm hoping we will eventually move to a bigger piece of property so I can give the Bayou Belle (my Scotty girl) a brother or sister camper. One day.

Hi everyone,

While I've made some posts in other areas of the board, I thought I better properly introduce myself here. I'm in the over 50 crowd, Army veteran, have worked around horses all my life and loved the outdoors (ie., camping, back roads, getting away from it all). By the time I found Bob, I was too old to have children, so we had Border Collies instead (he has grown children from his prior marriage). We loved tent camping, but due to infirmities brought on by those spectacular equestrian accidents I had when I was a kid (I bounced off the ground then, but they've come back to haunt me now), older age in general and standing 8 hours a day on a hard concrete floor (at work), I can't take sleeping on the ground or an air mattress anymore. For an old geezer (I'm his geezette), Bob is in great shape and can hike as far as the day is long. I can only hike as far as the nearest restroom or big tree, weak bladder here (Loved the "gotta pee" threads, will have to post a photo of Bob's homemade "luggable loo").

Anyway, we found by chance (Ebay of all places), a teardrop maker 60 miles from home and after waiting 6 months we picked it up last week, a 5 X 9 TCTeardrops I've named "Solitude". Here's a photo montage the day we brought her home:



Here's photos of Belle (the purebred blue merle) and Watson (a border collie cross that at least 6 different people we met in our travels thought was a "Pappion" when he was a puppy). Everyone thinks Belle is an Australian Shepard with a tail Don't know if they have the "eye" for sheep, but they sure do for a Frisbee or Ball. Watson will try to round up all the dogs at the local dog park, so we really have to keep an eye on him .




Now it's time to figure out the decor and find a place for everything in "Solitude"

Just wanted to add a quick hello here for the other ladies! I am Lauren, and myself and my husband Rob are working our first build right now. We live in Baltimore, and while he loves to camp with me, he isn't really interested in the teardrop culture the way I am. I am very into the 1940's/1950's, I own lots of vintage things, do vintage hairstyles, swing dance a couple nights a week. I will be doing at least 50% of the building, except the electrical which is his wheelhouse, and I am doing 100% of the shopping for things. I will also be crafting and sewing all the things that will make it home-like.

He also has a big ole full time job that requires his presence everyday, whereas I am self employed and have a lot of freedom to travel. I am working on publishing my second book, and am hoping to get to do some teardropping on my own to travel for book events, and to visit places and people when Rob can't join me.

Anyway, happy to be in such great company and standing on the shoulders of such great building giants.

Hi Lauren and welcome to a wonderful group of people! There are some awesome builders here, both guys and gals but unfortnately, I am not one of them. I found out I am not a carpenter although I try very hard but it's all good...I am a half decent decorator though.

Am looking forward to seeing pics of your build and vintage goodies! Please share pics often...we looooove pictures!

Hi,
My name is Barbara and I am new to this site. I am going to build my 5X8 on a 4X8 HF frame. Have builders stress right now as I am totally confused as to the instructions I bought which says to weld to the bottom of trailer 8 ft long angle irons to strengthen the trailer. As I am not a welder I have no clue how to do this except to go to a welder and probably pay big bucks to have it done. Some of the pictures in the instructions show body over trailer and another shows body on top of trailer. No help or response from guy I bought plans from. I do have building knowledge as I built my own 16ft. sailboat from kit and it had excellent plans to follow. I have been totally consumed by this build and wish I had just gone the distance and bought a 5X8 trailer. I am stuck though and can't return it. HELP ME, I'VE FALLEN AND CAN'T GET UP! Can't ever figure out how to add teary smile here. Barbara[

I would suggest that you copy your post and repost it in the Trailer and Chassis Secrets section, where it will get more of the HF builders' attention.
(I used a 5x8' Red Trailer, not a Harbor Freight one; so, am hesitant to reply, personally.)

Barbara, I cannot advise you on your trailer as I used an old pop up frame and had my modifications done by a professional welder, but would like to welcome you to the site!!
