Little Guy Rascal questions

Postby JHolden » Mon Feb 18, 2013 4:49 pm

Hey guys I'm new to these trailers so please be gentle, I have the chance to buy a Little Guy Rascal 2005 model with attachable tent/dining fly/screen porch for about $3k

I am really looking for something with a sink and power. But with the season soon approaching I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get Any better prices or if I should just go with this guy and modify it.

I would like to stick to a production trailer under about $3,500-$4,000 because in the future I do plan to sell it and build my own and from what I see if you buy a used production model they don't loose much value. Also this one is enticing as I plan to tow with a 4 cyl tow vehicle such as a Honda element or Scion XB (2008+)

I've had my 2006 Little Guy 4-wide for almost a year. I'm very happy with it. You can make improvements and modifications to the Little Guy line, just as you can any other name brand.

There were some issues with some of the 2006 Little Guy's, which has been traced to a lack of water infiltration protection on the edges of plywood on the side walls in the area around the tires. There have also been scattered issues with other models, but just remember that a lot of manufacturers have some production problems here and there. Many of the problems were also related to an Elkart, IN production site that manufactured the 2006 models, and that site no longer manufactures Little Guys.

If I found another good deal on another Little Guy, I wouldn't hesitate for one moment to purchase another one...in fact I did place a call this morning about one, but I'll stick with what I have.

If you go to the www.golittleguy.com website, there is an on-line forum for Little Guy owners. You can find more info about Little Guys there.

Good Luck.

Thanks Verna!

Does anyone have an opinion on $3k for the 2005 Little Rascal? Seems a little high for one that age but not finding many to compare it with.

In 2005, I believe they were being built at the Elkhart plant. But, the Rascal is unique. First, unless I am mistaken, in 2005 they still had the aluminum frame. That is great for weight, but just double check it underneath to make sure the welds haven't cracked. Second, the Rascal used composite board instead of plywood on the walls, also for weight savings. The advantage is that it is totally impervious to rot. The floor, however is still plywood, is is the backing for the filon roof panel. These comments are based on 2007 specs, which is when Elkhart built my custom 4-wide.

That would make sense about te aluminum, when I looked up the weight for that year I was surprised, also the current owners pulled it with there motorcycle so I can't imagine I'd have any issues with a scion XB as the tow vehicle

Here is how I view price. Is it a good deal for me? Some people think my Little Guy was a little high but the price was right for me. I am sure of I had looked around I may have found a lower prce but my time was better spent camping.
If it is in good shape and you said it had a side tent I woud think it a good price.
I am not sure that a well built well designed homebuild wouldn't hold theri value as well if not better. Some of them are amzing and if I get nother tear that is the route I will go.
All that I want to say I love my 2009 Little Guy. I just wish I xould afford the side tent.

Yeah to be honest the side tent is really the only thing keeping me interested at that price and they don't seem interested in coming off the price.

With the information that it has an aluminum frame that may be worth it alone, Not sure how much weight it shaves off but any bit helps when towing with a 4cyl

If your ok with the price?
I would say go for it..
Go to the little guy site and price the side tent?
This might help.

So that would make the trailer $2400.00
That is if they are asking $3000.00 for both?
Not bad at all.

I think the price is not to bad,
I have a 2006 little guy and I'm quite pleased with it. Well that is once I fixd the leaky tail lights.
Overall It's pretty good. I was going to build one But mine came along for a price similar to yours.
It's a 4wide platform. It's called a deluxe, But It's pretty basic.
If I were you I would go for that trailer right now.

Yeah the price is for both. I'm really leaning towards it and may pull the trigger. Seems like it is a good price. Honestly the aluminum frame is the most enticing
