World's longest yard sale

Has anyone ever been to this event? Looks like it might be a great idea for a teardrop tour.

I have wanted to attend this for several years. We have even talked about taking the teardrop but just can't find the time to spare.
If you go let us all know what you bought, what a bargain it was and how you liked it.

...on e of the discovery/learning/travel channels did a story on it that I caught...it looks like a neat deal but if you aren't into shopping the traffic would be a killer For a TD tour stopping regulary might make for some intersting finds to compare at the end of the day

One of our Dietetic Technicians attends this every year. She says that sometimes the traffic jams can be murder and, depending on the condition of the road, it can be a bit dangerous pulling off and back on.

Kevin,

I'm not so sure...

Don't know how a person could ever get all that cool stuff in a teardrop

Might be better to bring a dump truck

So much teardrop traveling time, so little vacation days from work.....

hahaha

I know my best friend Susan would LOVE to go to this, and it would be a good little trip with the teardrop. I have four weeks of vacation each year, but how can I fit everything in!!!???

Since I'm in Okla, it is about a days drive to get to Knoxville, then could do part of the corridor. Sounds like there might not be enough time to shop if everyone is stopping and asking about the teardrop !!!
Some things are way over my head !! ...but it keeps me looking UP!

I've been twice! The first year we started at Frankfort, Kentucky and worked our way down. Last year we started at the southern end and went north. There is no way to see it all in one year especially since it is now only one weekend. (It used to be 2.) While on the trip, we also do some of the tourist things nearby.
The traffic is murder. And I would never pull a trailer along the route. It's hard enough finding room to park along the way without one. But you can find anything. Mostly we look for handcrafts. This year my cousin bought a beautiful quilt, I bought a bear carved with a chainsaw, (done by a lady schoolteacher), some lovely pottery, etc. We always drive my Excursion, and sometimes wonder if we will be able to get everything home.
This year we decided that we like the area south of Frankfort the best. Next year we will homebase (?) there and just go north a day and then south. Plenty to keep you busy!

Aaahh yes, the natorious 127 sale!! Been there done that several time actually. I enjoyed it (when the weather was good) got caught in some rain one year. Yup you guessed it bought a nice $2 umbrella and all was LEAKY  But still we did enjoy it.
However, we went one year with our 2 kids at age 4. Needless to say we didn't make it far before we were carring them as well. but it was still fun to get out and drive for a while and stop and search for bargains. They're some out there you just gotta findem' and that is sometime the hardest part of all.
Would I reccomend it? Of course. Will I go again? O' yeah.

Kevin, My wife and I were planning to go from Cincinnati to Central Kentucky last year, but our plans changed. We were thinking of camping in some location and then shopping down and back up rt 127. The next day ,or so, were would camp further down and do the same thing. It still sounds like a great teardrop adventure. Maybe this summer, who knows. We really don't need any more junk (aka treasures) but it looks like a good time regardless.

Another Swap Meet that is 'a must' at some time in your life is the Quartzsite, AZ Swap Meet that takes place for all of January every year. It the largest Swap Meet in the West.

You can go for a whole week and not see every thing. And you take your TT and or TTT or larger RV and just about park it anywhere you can find a space. And the is a lot of space (the whole desert).

Have a good day.

Yes, it was covered in a Cincinnati AAA magazine a year or two back. I live off of 127, but about 20 miles north of the northern end of the "yard sale." I've never gone, though. I bet it's either a total tourist trap, or really cool. Or both. :)

If you're in Illinois on June 17 and 18 there is something called "More on 34" which is 100 miles of garage sales in and around Galesburg. I'm planning on taking "My Tear" this year.
Peace,

This weekend is the big swap meet here in portland. I think it is the largest auto parts swap meet on the west coast.

Maybe. Have you checked out the Pomona Swap Meet here in SoCal. Ask any of the big vendors up there if they have heard of it.
