We as a couple started out with the Coleman lantern and the Preway stove my parents bought back in the 1930's. Starting with a canvas umbrella tent. Our kids grew up camping and we eventually ended up with three Kelty tents and the same lantern and stove.
When we first saw RV crazy post empty nest we both liked the idea of a teardrop and I started looking, first because of my QC background at "what fails" wood and rust and I found a start up company building an all aluminum frame. It was a modern version of a Grasshopper, single door three doors in the galley. and one surprise, it had a 4 gal water heater, because they did not know teardrops did not have them. This proved to be one of Nancy's favorite features reducing meal clean up to what it is at home. We traded in MM #1 for MM #7 and it has a galley designed by Nancy and there were numerations other changes including the two doors...
Compass Rose is outfitted for serious boondocking and while we slowly move into that we also enjoy Tearjerker gatherings and as our grandchildren grow time camping with them (we still have the tents). CR has all of the comforts and at a certain age that is not a bad thing.

So what is a QC and what are MM's besides a candy that melts in your mouth and not in your hand? :?

Sorry, acronym alert, QC quality control i.e weld Xray, ultrasound, mag particle, penetrant and eddy current, from nuclear and space shuttle to carnival rides. MM Mega-Mini a now defunct company, #7 is the last one they built but did not finish, I had to complete many of the things like electrical. We owned #1 and now #7 and love it as it is now.

I would love to go for a couple of weeks, but a week is as long as we've been. The wife doesn't like to camp, but my son loves it. I used to tent camp a lot, but the ground seems to have gotten harder as I aged, so I really enjoy the comfort of a nice bed. I really love the galley, everything organized and at hand. I eat a lot better now than when I tent camped. I would definitely build another teardrop. It was a fun project! We usually go for a weekend, mostly at Conservation camping areas, they are free and lots to do with hunting or fishing.
I am planning on a 4 day event this summer in Marshall, MO for their MOJam event, making and shooting primitive traditional style bows. I went up for a day last year and learned a lot and had a great time.

I try and get away as often as possible. Having an offroad set up and the TD for pavement travels allows us the chance to see a lot more. We try and get away for at least one two week trip per year and as many two and three day trips as possilbe.

Seeing sunsets like this make it all worth the effort.

Even campgrounds are fun when you are in a TD. It seems that everyone is your friend when you pull in with a TD.

The best thing about both of the above setups is that we are still camping, not RVing. Just with a bit more comfort.
