My objective was to not have any poles or guide wires. But I wanted to be able to open the windows and not worry about rain. The fittings are marine Bimini top parts, the fabric is marine also. The top is one piece and velcro's on. The side curtains are separate and can be used or not.

I found this online which combines a rain gutter with an awning track. You could run this over the door as a normal gutter but attach an awning as well. The advantage of this would be less fasteners to deal with on the outside. You could probably make the awning run longer than the track and stabilize it with a couple poles anchored to the ground.
