The vintage plan shows a total floor length of 10 feet for the Wild Goose. It could, maybe, be stretched a foot or so without looking funny.

Hi Mike,
My trailer frame is 10 feet long and 5 feet wide. The width between the walls inside the van will be 5 feet. From the floor to the ceiling inside is 4 feet 10 inches. From the ceiling to the top of the roof is 2- 3/16 inches. The Queen size bed fits length ways on the floor and there is a door each side for access. There are 2 partitions at the end of the bed to stiffen the walls. These are 12 inches wide and will be fitted with cupboards and storage. From the end of the bed partitions to the wall of the galley is a further 17 inches. The total length of the van is 11 feet 4 inches. If you would like to see the drawing/s for it, I will post them for you and all the others to see.

It sounds like a dumb question, but there is a ratio in nature that is common called "phi". --- roughly 1.618 :1 that relates to beauty that is common in art as well as architecture.

I can't help but wonder if "cute" trailer sizes share this same ratio....

A 10 foot long trailer would be roughly 6.18 foot tall for example....

An 8 long trailer would be roughly 4.94 foot all...etc

That was discussed here a while back. Someone did an overlay that showed it held true for the better looking profiles. The Goose already looks a bit stretched. If you went to 12 feet, you might also want to add some height to keep it in proportion (even better from Angie's point of view- more room to breath).

In the Desgin Library in the Design Resources tab, Andrew has a design modeled after the Wild Goose called "New Kampmaster". It doesn't have a lot of dimensions, but at the floor, the design is 131" long which if my math is good is 10'-11" in length. The bed in this one does go across the trailer. I don't know how tall y'all are but 6 feet for a bed length is a little short. I'm 5-10" and can get by with a full length bed at 75" but prefer a queen length at 80".

I have seen two geese at irg and the dam. I didn't measure, but they looked a little longer than our trailer which is almost 10 feet. If i were to guess i would say 11 feet

Mo and I have an 11' teardrop. It doesn't have the canvas sides, but is set up like a normal tear. I went with such a long trailer because I am 6'7" and need some length to sleep. We got ours from SoCal and we have never wished that we bought something shorter. It tows like a dream and Mo and I can sleep with our three Corgi's very comfortably. The mattress is 102" long. Not sure of the height but I can sit up with room to spare, even with my height.

Excluding the tongue ours is 11' outside length. The Grasshopper, somewhat more squared off design means more usable interior volume and no leaning over in the galley.

Just do it your way, or anyway ya want. The one I'm building now is 142 inches w/o the tonque. It will have a 26" deep galley, a full size bed crosswise at the rear of the cabin, a dropped floor from the bunk to the bench seat at the front, all the way across. It will look like the campster 12, except the lower front will go straight down instead of being curved. And almost 5 ft tall in the front area. The wife wanted a place to put bag chairs to sit if the weather got really bad, not JUST lay down. The front will be a "stoopie."

Mike, I always work backwards. I figure out the length of the bed the gap space I need and then I move to the galley and figure out where everything should go. If I am putting in a cooler, which direction will it go. Add in any curves from the profile and then make a full size template, and draw everything in. You can see how it works and it's a good way to view the profile. This will give you the minimum size. You can always stretch it out if you need to. Just remember size is weight. If you don't need it don't make it bigger then it has to be.

If you don't need all the cabinets, the bed will be fine lengthwise with 10'. You will know your length when you decide what you need for cabinets and inside storage. I'm just guessing that you may want a space inside to store a couple of days worth of clothes(the rest could stay in the TV). Do you need/want cooking space inside? If yes, that will require more cabinetry than if your plan is to do your cooking almost entirely outside.
