Our Foam Mattress Arrived

Postby Oldragbaggers » Tue Mar 12, 2013 5:40 pm

Our full sized mattress arrived today (yipeee). When I saw the box I thought they must have accidently sent the pet bed size. It was so small. Inside the box was this hard solid lump wrapped in what seemed to be a mile of saran wrap. After I got all that wrap off and got to the bag that it was vacuum sealed in and punched that first hole in the bag, KABOOM, it blew up into a big person mattress in a hot second. Pretty funny.

Anyway, we got the 5" Super Soft from the Foam Factory. It's pretty soft and cushy, probably too much so for some people, but I love it. Very comfortable. I'll be sleeping like a baby princess out there.
:goodnight:
Only $87.99, and with free shipping that makes it $30 cheaper than the 4" memory foam mattress from WalMart. I'm sure it's every bit as soft and we won't have to worry about it getting hard in cold weather.

(I posted this in my build journal but thought I would do a separate entry for those who may be at the "looking for a mattress" stage.)

I've used "Foam by Mail" a couple of times and been happy.

http://www.foambymail.com/

Same packing technique. They also will cut to any size and make custom covers.

Cheers,

Gus

Hey Becky, Isn't it odd how exciting it is to get your mattress. For us it was 'the' reason for making our Teardrop really; having a comfortable bed while camping. We ordered our mattress and for the next month I was like a bride waiting for the gown to arrive for final fitting. By the time it arrived I couldn't wait to get it in the trailer to check the fit and have a little lie-down. Congratulations on your great buy!

Cheers,

Dave

Our home mattress is queen-sized and ~12" foam, I was a little apprehensive breaking the seal because I'd heard about how quickly they open and I was not unrewarded.

We actually slept on ours yesterday for a nap. Nice and comfy. This weekend I'll put it in the teardrop. It must be tested under all circumstances....just to be sure. :)

Becky: did you get your mattress from Foam Factory on ebay? I did a search using "foamfactory.com" and it came up with an architectural foam company. We may be wanting to replace our mattress this year.

About a month ago, my wife returned from her month and a half business trip to the Jersey Shore (Sandy damage claims), and decided to re-do her home office/hideaway project. I took her to Ikea for the furnishings. (ulterior motive hidden here) As a by-the-way dear aside, I talked her into letting me load up on LED lighting and I grabbed a mattress I had in mind http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00139752/. I have yet to unroll it, but it will be good enough for me to use (I like firm beds). I can always throw in a Walmart bedtopper for her (she likes soft bedding). Reason for ulterior motive: I am so much over the $500 trailer budget she agreed to, like 3 times !!, I sneak in purchases whenever we make a "family" trip to HD,WM, and now Ikea. PS > I threw a Dual Fuel Coleman 424 and 100 shotshells for my 20ga in the Walmart cart last weekend, hahahaha ! Also, I threw caution to the wind yesterday, and bought a LG 5k btu A/C and some more supplies; I just told her that is what I needed and thats what I'm gonna get (its her trailer to be, after all,-not really-).

Actually, money has been tight for awhile...lost a BUNCH of $$$ on a house/legal fees in a long, drawn out mess (check out your renters/purchasers!) ...wife hadn't worked in 4 years...I sufferered a major paycut at the same time ( I had to give up racing). After all that, I have been just re-purposing and eking out a little at a time for a parts. Major purchases raise a red flag. And you have NO idea how much I spent on my racing and car hobby in the previous decade or so. So, yes, I wussed out in this case.

jjjonz - No offense taken; I was just showing the how and why that I have slowly learned to prioritize my hobbies. We're OK, but the trailer build is taking longer than I would have done in the 90's (reclaimed a Chevelle from the dead and was racing 3 months later...expense be damned, and stuck to a build plan day to day).
