5x10 Shorty Build

KY , Really Like what you’ve got going !!! Something like that just Perfect for my occasional needs.... Looking around here at the plethora of Cargo trailers on the road , I’ve NEVER seen a shorty like that , other than a couple short and too small Uhauls ...
I’d gladly pay the price , if I could find one ... none even on the trailer lots here... all tall boys...
You were very Fortunate to find such a nice rig ,and at a good price too..

I havent checked in for a while, been keeping busy. I spent a weekend in the trailer a couple weeks ago and it went well. The trailer pulled well and i slept like a baby. Heres where im at now:









I purchased a teardrop style door latch to install but it wont work as the exterior handle would end up half on the door trim. Im going to go with an rv style latch instead, but i really dont want to tear the door apart to install. I could really use some advice from any of you that have installed your own. The door seems pretty much hollow so this is my main concern.

your doing a fine bunch of wood working there; like the boat like rounded cubby hole ideas; it will keep things in and organized; is that 1/2" birch ply? or marine ply? Also liked the double duty coupboard / table idea ...

It will be nice to have all the camping gear consolidated in one place. Just hook up and go without jenga packing the truck every time.

Boy, ain't that the truth. I call it "Tetris" packing. When I load up my truck, esp. now with all the toddler gear, it looks like "The Clampetts Go Camping". Then if we have multiple campsites, it's pack/unpack all over again. Can't wait till my trailer is ready to hitch up and go like you said.

I love the work you're doing, did you end up going with the 1/4" birch on the walls? It's a little floppy but the weight penalty of anything thicker seems like a drag (literally).

The wall panels and cabinets were all done with 3/8 Baltic birch. In hindsight I probably could have used 1/4 for the walls. Its pretty strong stuff.
Today I finished my portable boombox for the trailer. Sounds really good!

Really liking how your build is turning out! making me consider a cargo conversion. Do you know about what its weighing currently? Also how its towing that flat front? any problems with swaying ect?

I have that same amplifier for my waterproof radio I made out of an ammo can & some waterproof speakers. Sounds great, can't beat the price! I think I got mine for about $10 on amazon.

The trailer tag claims a dry weight of 938, so if that's accurate I'm going to guess around 1500 lbs unloaded. The trailer tows just fine but wind drag is noticeable. I would have preferred a v nose.
I paid around 20 for the amp and its still well worth the money!

I bet you are correct! I have a similar CT, and this is what I found when I dismantled my rear doors:

I noticed you also removed your aluminum kick panels. Did you find any moisture damage behind them?

That's nasty! Think I'll be double checking the sealant on my doors now My door didn't have any water damage when I opened it up, but it was just as flimsy as I had feared.


So I ended up rebuilding the whole thing...
