misspelled words

Postby pete42 » Wed Mar 13, 2013 6:51 pm

I just downloaded IE 10 when I misspell a word on this site it underlines it in red
is this something in IE10 or some new thing on this site?
Microsoft just keeps changing and changing and not always for the better.
anyone else have the newest and greatest IE10?

It's good to know that Internet Explorer has stopped dragging their feet. I think IE10 is an attempt to catch up to Google Chrome. Google Chrome has done spell checking for probably a year or better.

Almost any quality browser will "Spell Check", you just have to turn it on (check in tools drop down), and put sell check in "check as you type mode",,,

Firefox has had option for years..... Most others browsers too.....

For stand alone Spell Checks for other wordsmithing operations a really good spell check the will work with almost any "open edit window" (Word or Wordpad or Notepad or "other") is MicroSpell.... IS even better than spell check included in in MS word.... Works with most browsers too...

For GOOGLE CHROME users....

I never realized you had to turn it on, i have always had spell check with the red line regardless of the browser and don't remember ever turning it on. It even happens on my ipad.

I think most people who don't use it don't realize it doesn't just tell you which words, are misspelled, all you have to do is click or tap the misspelled word and you get a list of words for possible correction. You don't have to retype the word!

Just on this post alone I have 7 misspelled words, make that 8, that i am now correcting your benefit! Sure wish it would auto correct for lack of apostrophes on my Ipad.

Spell check is my best friend.

I love spell check but it isn't all good. Some words may be spelled correctly but used incorrectly so spell check doesn't register a problem. That's why I try to proof read twice.

As I have said before my spelling is less than terrific and with out spell check it is painful. Mike that some one does not care about spelling and some form of grammar, tells me they do not care about their audience. I do pay attention to the red line because I wish to be understood and with out a great deal of difficulty. Using spell check means that My spelling has improved, some, but part of it for me is that it is one of the expressions of aspergers in me, that I have difficulty. I am working with a client (social work) who is not dumb or slow but has appalling social skills (part of his disability) and I have been able to impress on him that he can express himself with out four letter words and speaking correctly. Using spell check means you care about your audience.

There is an old quote, don't remember who it was. " I pity the man that can only spell a word one way."

Nice to know they got something right in IE10. For the most part, it's just change for the sake of change, rather than change for the sake of improvement.

And I still get caught with correct spelling and it being wrong word.... Some times hilarious, some times painful....

Postby pete42 » Thu Mar 14, 2013 10:44 am

well isn't that special on some words it auto corrects on some like sorta the word is red underlined
and to correct the miss used misspelled word you need to place the cursor over the word and...........
here comes Microsoft's weird way of doing things, you must use SHIFT KEY F10 to see a list of words.
when I use my E-mail I just place cursor over word and "click".
In the past there was talk of rescinding my diploma due to my bad spelling.
