where do you put your clothes when teardropping.

I built a 1x3 frame on the floor with 4 pieces of 1/2" birch plywood on the top. I drilled finger holes in the plywood so I could lift the pieces up. I can store shoes, 2 weeks worth of clothes neatly folded, along with my tools in a separate section. It's very simple and extremely useful. I do need to cut a couple of 18" dowel rods, put rubber ends on them to use as hold-ups for the plywood to give me a hand when getting into the storage.

I just finished up a Rear Door Trailer and am going camping in it for the first time this weekend, but I have had a Teardrop since the late 80's.

The one thing I hate doing is having to store anything on the bed. And I do keep my clothes in a Gym Bag.



When the Galley is pulled out,as it is when camping there is a nice 2'X2' void there on the inside where a Gym bag will store nicely out of the way.

I am also considering putting some coat hooks just inside the door to the right or even a rack for coat hangers.

The only thing that spooks me about the coat hooks is that they may be at eye level....a little more thinking has to be done.

My clothes go I. The cabinets, shoes go outside. Instead of coat hooks I use small door knobs. They hang most jackets just fine, and I don't worry about stabbing myself in the head ( or eye)

Don't have to worry about Cold Wet shoes. there's a place for them, inside and out of the way.



And after going out and looking at the situation, And installing them the coat hooks weren't really that much of a concern. And actually work better than say...small door knobs?

Following Verna's example, I built a 1x3 grid on the floor and covered it with plyboard - each grid section has its own plyboard and mattress section so that I can get into it without difficulties. The clean clothes go into the grid. Dirty clothes go into a tote which goes into the van during the night - makes it easier to take to the laundry! Once washed, the clothes go back under the bed. I spent three weeks on the road this fall and it worked very well. As for changing, I pitch First-Ups over Gertrude and attach walls. This allows me to change without dislocating any body parts, plus it gives me a place for the "necessary"!

I made my trailer 9'-6" long and made a cabinet in the front 1' deep. It's full height for one half of the width of the camper and half height with a counter the other half. I can hang up clothes on the tall side and use the short side to put clothes in and the counter makes a handy place to put stuff like an alarm clock and shoes. Plus I have the regular cabinets at the foot.

Clothes, what clothes? As soon as it is dark, I strip down naked. throw the duds in the trunk and climb into the sack, enjoying the warmth of my electric blanket. The problem with this proceedure, is when I wake up after daylight, it is a bit uncomfortable and embarrasing, wandering around the trailer in the buff, digging my clothes out of the trunk of the car, while my neighbors are watching. So far, no 80 year olds have shown any interest in my antics, and it is just as well, since my TD is a one-person rig.......I hope.

Shoes stay outside....jeans and shirts/jackets on hooks,,,extras have been known to be packed in an old Samsonite small suitcase and placed on the fender....and yes,,I do the teardrop waggle to change unless I'm in the boonies.....

When I had my teradrop, I rolled up my clothes and put em on a shelf( back side of galley). Then put a bungie cord across em to hold em in "transit". Coat and hat went on hooks on side walls near shelving. Enuf clothes fer 3-4 days. Fer longer trips or COLDER trips, I used a small suitcase fer the extra stuff and jus stood it on end whilst sleepin ( alone)

When I build my new tear... Imma build in a closet to hang me clothes in and store shoes in the bottom. I'm lovin the "door knob" idea ( STEALING). I love the old glass door knobs !
