Harbor Freight Trailer part needed

Hey anyone have this part extra laying around from a harbor freight trailer after moding your tongue.

The Coupler Base.

Two email to their parts department and one to their CS department and nothing back whether or not I
can get the part separate.

I bent that part, and the plate that goes under, when my trailer went over, so I am also looking for those parts. The last information I got was that I would have to order the parts from the trailer manufacturer, not HF. Getting something custom welded was also mentioned, but I don't really want to spend half the value of the trailer getting the hitch fixed!!! If I'm going to dump another $200 into my trailer, I may as well make it $400 and buy a 5' wide NT!

:frustrated: :fb

Has anyone swithched to the A-Frame coupler available from HF? They would have one probably. Or is this an option for you?

Every welder wants to get rich. I'd make that piece for 25-30 bucks and feel like I robbed you

I just bought a new HF frame and it was missing the same part.

Luckily I had one.

Good Luck. Ya may do better converting to this.

Its really not that more expensive or aggravating. I know the jack is a lot cheaper than a swing up and that offsets it a lot.

True, you shouldn't have to pay for it But.....

VS

And a lot of aggravation!

I always liked the "A" frame coupler because if you tow with a truck, as I do you can put the tailgate down...Ya can't with a swing up.

Plus I think the esthetics are a lot better. An "A" frame, should have an "A" Frame Coupler!

Happy Trails

That is the exact setup I want to go with. Is it an easy install? My stock coupler is fine but i really like the idea of the centered jack for nice even stability while camping.

(Junkboy /Catherine I may have the part available for you soon  )

Its not hard. It doesn't fit perfectly but as long as you get 6 bolts in it your fine. 4 on top and 2 on the side.

Do you leave the original bottom plate on or have to take it off?

(I am sure it would be obvious if i was looking at mine but I am at work :) )

Yes, you leave it on. And you have to make a hole in it to accommodate the jack.

If you don't and bump the jack you'll bend the coupler.

I did mine with a hole saw.

Its really a more professional looking set up. Replacing what I call the "Harbor Freight Knuckle".

I'm all about looks. I'm very shallow like that.

I'll try to get a photo.

As you see above, it can be done. The angle of the A frame is not the same as that part but it is close.
A few people have done this mod. Len’s is the first I have seen of the bottom plate. Nice way to keep
it from being bent backward.

My truck just has a bumper ball hitch and a sport package suspension, so the back site up a bit higher.
Putting that part on will raise the tongue height 3 more inches. Plus the center jack stand will not let
the tailgate open up fully as mentioned above.

So for me, if I had that part I can just get the $16 replacement coupler at HF. One day I’ll get a full hitch
install so I can adjust the height of the camper.

Oh well Slow, if you can’t find it no biggy. The new TD I gonna build next year will have a center mount
and still allow me to lower the tailgate.

For now I guess I’ll just have to deal with this old thing.

Ya i guess I can get one with a center mount jack but still use the side frame jack for now. It should make
Beaver Bend next week, but I want it replaces before I do the the Dam gathering of the Tears in May. Will
be visiting friends along the way so it will be a 12 day trip for me.

Amen to that. If I had a plasma cutter, I'd make it for free just for the fun of making it.

I was missing that part in my kit last year. After trying a few different phone numbers I got someone who spoke English and they said that it would ship from their warehouse immediately. Got the part in a couple days. Just have your manual ready to tell them the part description. I believe that's the "coupler base" shown in the original post.
