Slow,
When you have a 5 year old, TV at night and on rainy trips makes things much better!!
And after riding the trails or the Harley all day, kicking back and watching a movie while sipping a cold one, with the bride, can be the perfect way to end the day!
Because I have a constitutional right to, that's why!!

Just use a small inverter for power. Vizio from Wal Mart seemed to give the most bang for the buck when I was looking at them. For comparison, here's a Vizio 19" versus a Jensen 19".

Vizio LED $128

Power Consumption: 25W

Jensen $399

Power Consumption: 50W

The LED TVs have the lowest current draw (the Jensen isn't an LED). TVs are changing so fast its hard to keep up with what the latest, bestest stuff is.

I was suggesting the dvd player itself to hook up to the tv. They're around $150 but I bet you can find cheaper. Try PartsExpress.com

Although not the cheapest solution, we, use a laptop computer for entertainment. The laptop carries numerous movies and can play DVDs. It can also be connected to a usb tv tuner. It plays games. Also, i can store/view images from my digital camera. Finally, it will connect to the internet if we are at a hotspot. (a coffee shop or Tim Hortons for us Canadians).

We have a very small tear so space is at a premium. IMHO, a laptop provides the best compromise in an environment where everything must serve multiple purposes. Plus, we have a 7 year old Acer that serves fine, albeit, slowly.

And this particular laptop can also display on a TV with the right input, so that is what we use in the living room at home to watch stuff on You Tube or Netflix.

Oops, I missed that part. At 25 watts, the 19" TV would draw around 3 amps an hour running through an inverter. 50 amp hours a night is a typical usable capacity for a group 27 battery. 12v DVD players are getting kind of hard to find, I couldn't find many that weren't built into car radios when I looked quickly. I ditched the DVD player in my setup and ripped all my DVDs to a USB hard drive. I use a WD streaming content box to connect the hard drive to the TV.

Car/portable DVD players are still fairly common over here. We bought one for my daughter and I managed to acquire a 19" flat LCD TV from my old boss. She had the same problem it only has an analogue tuner so instead of trying to find a 12 V digital tuner she bought a new TV not an issue for me as I dont want to watch TV while im away but it will keep the girls (11 and 13) happy with the DVD player hooked up.

I know my build is going to be a little bigger then most as it's a tiny house but I'm going to try any ways this is the plan so far (things may change) to build an entertainment stand around the tv after it is mounted to the wall mainly for cosmetic looks but I was then thinking of incorporating my stereo/dvd player into it as well as I have a playstation 3 that I use for moves so a nice simple stand with some book storage and the two components...hoping for a nice clean setup

Here's my simple and cheap solution with no cutting or wiring.

From BestBuy for $119. LED 19" TV

Looks like this -

The power supply outputs 12V @ 3 amps. I bought the universal 12V adapter. It has multiple tips. $9.00

Bob, Do you know what the W draw is on the unit? That could be a good alternative.

Our flat screen with DVD draws 1.8 A
Mike we watched our TV at Big Basin when a group of college students from San Fransisco camped for the first time next to us. That was the only time during our month long trip.
