Recommendation for size of Converter/ Charger

Postby round2it » Wed Mar 20, 2013 8:38 pm

I recently bought a used little teardrop that has a 12 volt system but no 110. I do not plan to have any major appliances but would like the avaialability of 110 on the trailer as well as a charger for the battery. Could someone suggest a size that's fairly common and perhaps even a brand that's solid in reliability. That's for any help that you can share with me.

Progressive Dynamics 4045 is one with a good reputation that a lot of folks have bought for their tears. Do a search in this section and see what they have to say.

+1 for the Progressive Dynamics 4045, but that said, it isn't installed in the teardrop yet, just running on the bench.

Avoid the WFCO 8725. Mine failed twice, the second time only 3 months after the warranty repair :(

My memory of the American is that it is really Chinese :? and the manual says nothing about being multistage in charging. I would stick with the Progressive Dynamics which is US in manufacture and has a very good reputation. I have one of the power centers and have checked its output which is as advertised. I have just sent a question to the ebay seller asking what the charging voltages are.

I've had it for 5 years and haven't had a problem. As for it not being a multistage charger, my current battery is 5 years old and off the grid it lasts the whole weekend running lights, exhaust fan, and radio and never seems to run down. Go ahead and pay the extra money for the multistage converter. They are better.
