I got one of the hydroflame gravity heaters with my pop-up teardown. But mine does not have the cool v shaped logo. :(

Well, couldnt not try to make it fit, after all I have a working gas fridge.

So I attacked it today

Knocked down the sort-o-cabinet
and It sets in there nice

Image

Cut back the foam, I sort of remembered there was wire buried in this section of wall....Yuppers

Image

Got it cut out, wires and water lines protected and cabinet built and sealed to the inside
Fridge cabinet insulated with 1 1/2" foil backed foam
Access door vent installed on the outside

Image

Fridge in, counter in

Image

Just have to run propane line and source a top wall vent for the fridge
And seeing as it is a holiday, I couldn't finish the cabinet under the overhang cause the stores are closed :(

Fridge has a flint spark ignition, I tore it all apart last night cause it was seized, drilled out the stuck flint, cleaned it all up, new flint and it works :)

Only have about 9 inches of counter on the overhange, Need to try and get a sink in somewhere for washing up
Don't want to go vessel sink on top of counter, cause I hate them, but may have to
Do they make 9 inch wide bar sinks that don't cost $700, sheesh

Wonder how much more I can stuff in a 6' 6" x 9' 6" box ????
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

You could do like many others have and use an inexpensive stainless steel mixing bowl from a department store (Wal-Mart here in US) and convert that to a sink by hole sawing the bottom for a drain fitting. Small, light weight, inexpensive.

or instead of the bowl, like a stainless mixing bowl, I was advised to get like a stainless serving dish, like for banquets. square, cut a hose in the bottom for drain, you can get them down to about 5" x 5" for about $4, check a restaurant store. (Mine will only be like 3" deep so it folds into the wall. :-)

I came up with the idea of using a round stock pot for the sink because it was deep and could fit more dishes, my lovely wife suggested I use a roasting pan. They are longer and more shallow so, I got 1 from the thrift store for $6.00. I'm not going to install it with a drain but I'm going to keep it as a "portable" so I can set it on the picknic table, or the bumper etc.... plus , they have a lid for carrying it around. Martian, I am nor very wordy so I don't often comment on peoples builds, you do good work! I hated to see the little dent/scrape on your truck.

For those that don't know, Ameristone means PLASTIC !!!
But it is nice plastic...

Well finished cutting the sink, routered out the counter for an undermount, glued sink in with PL2000 and then headed to the park trailer for the night to give glue time to dry, opened up, had a fire, did some site cleanup, burnt leaves and Drank too much beer :guzzle: :Flippin Burger:
If there is such a thing as too much beer...

Image

Came home and the PL2000 was dry, filed the sink edges and test fit the countertop.

1/2 sink should work out just fine

Image

Image

Now have to modify the counter for fridge vent and install the taps...
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

As long as it doesn't fall out when I fill it with water...lol
The reason for the wierd counter knotch and step is I have to vent the fridge higher then the evaperator,
I'm going to be marginal on my vent, but oh well, if I have to fan assist I will

Image

Boy, that $50 pile of used parts has caused one buttload of extra work re-engineering the trailer....lol

Re: Campfx, Custom mini sink in, temp, workin on fridge vent

Postby PcHistorian » Sun Apr 08, 2012 8:09 pm

LOL, ok, I'm caught up (I think) I was wondering why you cut the sink in half, I was wondering if you needed it half depth and so then reglued it inside itself. (I do cut and paste in paintbrush that way, but it is cut and move/overlay.) But I'm caught up now. Looking great. Now what to do with the spare half sink and counter top? (use at the fish camp for gutting and cleaning fish, then just put a trash bag or bucket under the cut out sink? there goes the compost for the rose garden... ;-)

you can always put lateral screws in the side of the sink, to support the glue. Or more invisible is some pipe strap across the bottom and screwed to the underside of the counter-top. (then wedge to perfection. ;-)

With all the foam in this beast, figured better take precautions.
Fridges get mighty hot, both on gas and electric
And over the years I've had to deal with damage from fridge fires a few times.
Pulled the fridge back out and lined the back 1/3 of the compartment with galvanized sheet metal.
That hopefully will prevent havin to have a lecture from " Smokey De Bear "
While doing that I baffled the back wall to only have 1/4 " clearance to the cooling unit.
Should draft mighty fine now and increase its efficiency substantially.
It really helps to not have excessive air space and air pockets aroundt the cooling unit

Got an outside vent and rain deflector installed.

Chris you are a great inspiration I would have the hardest time cutting holes through the walls of the trailer and you just do it...hahah great job by the way your little trailer will be very livable when your done looks great as it is ...what other tricks you thinking of doing to it???

Ya, but I will also take a brand new car 2 hours after pick it up and run a hole saw through the trunk or roof to mount a CB antenna.
Had to sawzall my brand new truck to fit in the battery and to mount the winch and drill holes for my rolling floor, so to chop up something i built is no biggy.
Still have to figure where to put stove top, might take table out and put in a window length bartop. And thinking of maybe a basement, the bed might get reworked, maybe some more windows, or tear it down to the floor and start again...lol

Well what a misserable day, rain, sleat and a bit of snow...yuk.
Got home from work at 5, Installed some 1" automotive trunk bulb seal on the storage compartment.

Image

I found some clear coated mill finish aluminum, probably about 20 gauge. Covered the side panels on the utility box, looks better then the painted ply, left the ply to back it
When I pick up my aluminum to do the bottom of the trailer I may grab an extra sheet and replace it though.
The red .040 shouldn't need the play to back it. But the mill was a freebie, and that helps so it may stay, not sure.

Image

Image

On the way home stopped at the marina and grabbed a bilge vent.
Installed that also, will probably suck some water in, but I have both Propane and Batteries in this compartment.
So I figured it would be a good idea and it looked cool

Image

And on a side note, the baffle I made for the fridge is working awesome. Before baffle thermostat set at 5 to have fridge at optimum temp, now set at 1.5 for fridge to be at optimum temp.
SHouldn't need to fan assist from the look of it, normally sidewall vented fridges are a little tough to get rid of the heat, roof vent normally work better if installed properly
Got a quote from the marine upholstery shop to make cushions cause I hate the futon...$924.00 Yikes big time, might learn to like the futon
