Trailer lights

Ok next weekend Im plannin on bringin my vardo on its first real trip (bringin it home) Now when i took it for a test ride I used the magnetic break light but I want to wire it up corectly. I know I need the 2 break lights that came with it in the back, but do I need the side amber lights? Do I need a license plate light?

I went with the more lights the better theory.........

I have redundent stops and tails (2 full sets)

and 4 clearance lights on each side on the teardrop.

The barn has the low mounted stock tail lights and that made me nervous so I mounted a high stop lamp as well. The barn also has 3 clearance lights each side. If a guy (or gal) swings out to pass the guy behind me I want them to know I am towing and not think its a landing spot behind my truck.

Somewhere on here it has been discussed wiring the center clearance as a turn indicator also. You have seen this on semi trailers mid way under the bed.

By using a two bulb clearance light the wires can be seperated by cutting one and rewiring it to the turn indicator circuit on its respective side. One bulb will remain as a clearance the second will announce your intentions to turn to motorists that can see the side of your trailer.

You might want to check your state's motor vehicle website. Here in Nevada, they have a document that describes all the requirements for trailers. It talks mainly about brakes. reflectors and lights and though there is probably a national standard, your state might have something different.

Most states just echo the NTSB site recommendation for lighting....
