I decided on a better floor plan because I see it being difficult to get seated by the sink area.

seems like there might be a dead/unused space in the bathroom corner, any way you can put the potty in the corner at a 45', or maybe put the sink in that dead corner next to the john and then you will have a little more kneecap room, and could put a shallow closet there in it's place?

I really like your design. We started out to build a tear, then went to something like your building and I guess we're going to end up with something in between!

I have considered a toilet in a small standie also. I wonder if the toilet could be installed where your stove is with its back to the tongue.

When the potty door is closed it could nearly rest against the front of the toilet. Also with the potty door closed there would be room enough only for the toilet in the bath room. When opened all the way the unhinged edge could connect with the wall across the hall that the toilet "faces". When the bathroom is in use the floor in front of the trailer exit door would be in the bathroom. When not in use that same floor would be a hall or entry area for the trailer exit door. The floor in front of the exit door would have a dual use. Dual use empty space.

Of course you would need a wall across from your toilet. Your diagram does not show one. Also a bifold door may be required unless stepping outside the trailer to fully open the bathroom door is appealing.

Might save some space.


I thought that I might add that a sink installed in the kitchen can also be used as a sink for bathroom needs. This would free up room in a small bathroom.

I hear what you are saying but one thing I forgot to draw on my plan was the drain hole.

I thought that space could be a standing shower area.
I am taking input all the time though, because when it comes time to build the bathroom I'm sure I will use chalk lines on the floor and move stuff around for a good fit.

John's ideas are interesting as well. I like it. I guess you would have to make dang sure you lock your entry door. Or there could be some surprised people.

I don't know if you plan to mount the potty to the floor or not, but if you used a porta potty you could put it wherever you wanted, and take it out when you take a shower.....

Hmmm. Really good point. It would make the bathroom take up less room. Something to think about. Thanks John.

You may be headed in a different direction by now with the porta potti. I don't know if any of these shower/pan combos would be good for your design ideas... There are several options here, some with onboard holding tanks.

Thetford's cassette toilet is a permanent mount. You dump it the same way a porta pottie is serviced. An access door will have to be installed on the outside wall adjacent to the toilet installation. The holding tank can be serviced through the access door from the outside. There are two models of the cassette toilet. One model will allow a direct connection to an onboard water tank to draw water used for flushing. With this feature, you don't have to fill two separate water sources.

You don't have to wrestle the entire toilet to service it.
No need for a permanent black water tank to be installed.

I have never installed one, or have I seen an actual installation. The install/instruction manual can be downloaded from http://www.thetford.com. I have two questions for Thetford: Will this toilet be ok in a shower compartment? Can a standard sewage hose be fitted for use instead of the holding tank if hook ups are available at the campground?

This configuration may be better for a smaller footprint. The bowl swivels in either direction!

The cassette unit will work with a shower combination, however it cannot be fitted with a sewer hose instead of the holding tank.

That is the same style that is on tent trailers. When I had my tent trailer. The cassette wasn't bad at all easily removed. The water tank for flushing is small about 2 gallons. We never had to empty it on a weekend camping with 5 people, but just used for number 2.
